OTHER INFORMATION

Harrison County takes its name from William Henry Harrison, the first president of the U.S. to be elected from Ohio. It comprises about 414 square miles of the ancient and deeply eroded Allegheny Plateau.

For a century, Harrison County was predominantly agricultural. After World war I, the economic base of the country shifted to soft-coal mining. Cadiz is the county seat.

Other current industries include; stone-clay-glass, paperboard boxes, drain tile, pottery, brick, dairy products, cattle, calves and bituminous coal.

Probate Judge has birth records to 1917, marriage & probate records; Clerk of Courts has divorce & civil court records from 1813; Health Office has birth records from 1917, death & burial records.
