OTHER INFORMATION

Fayette County was named in honor of the Marquis De LaFayette, the French soldier and diplomat who induced the French to sign a Treaty of Alliance.

The city of Washington Court House is the county seat. The "Court House" was added to separate this city from other towns with the same name in the state. The surrounding countryside pastures Hereford cattle, sheep, hogs and horses. The county is sometimes referred to as the "Herefordshire of Ohio" and has more horsemanship than in any other county.

Some of the main industries include; food processing, lumber, metals, electric motors, generators, pre-fabricated steel buildings, and fabricated millwork products. Hogs are the main agricultural product in the county.

Clerk of Courts has divorce records from 1853 & civil court records from 1828.
