|Hayes walked six miles a day to get to school. "Ruddy" liked to read in his spare time. After working as a lawyer, he became a general in the Civil War. Then he was elected Governor of Ohio three times. As President, he was the first to make a telephone call from the White House.|
Born in Delaware, Delaware County, Ohio, Hayes later lived in Fremont, Sandusky County, Ohio. His grave and museum are also located there. It is beautifully decorated during the Christmas season.
