1881, Brunaire was 17 when Sylvestre died. Brunaire traveled by horse from Patoutville to
Jefferson Island to court Valerie Robichaux. He married into the Robichaux family.
1885, Brunaire was 2O when he married. Witnesses @ marriage: Severin Bodin,Valery Robichaud,
Alcide Comeaux.
Brunaire had two farms @ Jefferson Island. 1892 (15-Jun) property acquired from Valery
Robichaud. 5 - 43/1OO arpents front, by 8 arpents deep. (48 acres) Boardered on the south
by public road. Purchased for $6OO. (Payable in 3 notes of $2OO /each - due in one, two and
three years).
Farm 1) six miles out of New Iberia (out the Abbyville Highway to the fork in the road) take the
fork by Petite Ansis (5th ward) going toward Jefferson Island and turn right. The left
fork takes you toward Erath. The farm is 2 1/2 miles from Jefferson Island.
Bonins & Robichauxs lived across the Bayou (De Blanc Coulee) from the Louvieres.
The Farm was one hour from Town (New Iberia) on horseback @ 6 mph. There were two houses on the
farm (Elias lived in one) and a barn. The Barn was still standing in 1975.
Severin Bodin had a sugar mill next to Brunaire's farm.(Mill and house are gone now).
Farm 2) The second farm (24 acres) was down the same road, but one and a half miles closer in to
New Iberia. 1907, Brunaire sold farm #2 to Paulin Robichaud and Telesphore Robichaud.

1919, (16-Oct) Brunaire sold the 1st farm to Mrs. Odile B. Homer Daily for $7,5OO.

Brunaire and family came to Port Arthur, Texas and opened a grocery store. Valerie had a
stroke, they closed the store and went back to New Iberia. Stayed @ the Peebles Plantation
for one and a half years. Then came back to Port Arthur and opened a Furniture store @ 5O5 7th
street (@ Austin) (Back of Lakeview Hotel). Went out of business in 1927.

1928, Valerie died. (She was paralyzed for 9 years before she died) (She could walk after she
was up, but could not get up by herself) She had a stroke when they lived @ 11O3 Houston
Ave.,then they went back to New Iberia.

1929, Opened a Furniture store @ 1O38 Houston Avenue with Sully and Al.
Lived @ 11O3 Houston Avenue.

1936, Closed the furniture store when Brunaire died. Al bought Sully out. (Sully quit and moved
to The Groves). Al paid NANNY for Brunaire's share of the store. Al opened the store on
7th Street. (Louvier Furniture Company). Sully later opened the store on Procter. (City
Furniture Company). Brunaire died @ 71 years. (sick for one week) He and NANNY were living @
612 8th Street, Port Arthur. He was a 15 year resident in Port Arthur -from 1921. Place of
birth - New Iberia, widower when he died. 3 surviving brothers - Belizaire (BILL) in
Jeanerette, Dupre in New Iberia, Voreste in Crowley. 6 sons - in Port Arthur - Elias, Sully,
Alfred, Al, Rome, - in Louisiana, Sim.
