Transcription of the Last Will & Testament of ANDREW MOORMAN (1744-1791) [This will, located in Campbell County, Virginia Will Book 1, pages 182-184 was transcribed by Linda Sparks Starr OCT 1996 from photocopies of the 8 « x 13 inch pages made at the Courthouse. When in doubt, _Campbell Co. VA Wills 1782-1800_, by TLC was con sulted. This transcription is true to the original in spelling and the colonial use of "Ÿs" for "ss"; however paragraphing and bold printing of names were added to make this more readable.] In the name of God Amen. Fifth day of March one thousand seven Hundred and ninty one I Andrew Moorman of Campbell County being very low of body but of perfect mind thanks be to god for the same. I do constitute and declair this my last Will and Testament as followeth viz. Item I desire that my Executors settle & pay all my Just debts. Item __ lend my beloved wife Judith a part of the lands I now live on including the House & buildings from the lower end of sd Tracts ajoining of JeŸse Moorman running up on both sides of the Creek to a large fork thence up the left fork to my back line and then another line from the sd fork to a pon_ at the upper end of the plantation continuing the same course to Venables line thence down my South East line until they Intersect with JeŸse Moorman so as to include the lower part of sd Lands also three negroes to wit Frank, Susannah & Suck, two horses, one yoak of oxen & cart, one bed bedstead & furniture, two Cows & calfs four sows & piggs, two puter dishes, « doz puter plates, knifes & forks. Item I give my daughter Mildred the wife of Thos C. (sic) Clark, two young negroes by name Peter & Fanny, a bay mare two cows & calfs one bed & furniture, « dozen puter plates knifes & forks for ever now in the sd Clarks poŸsestion. Item I give my son Achilles my tract of Land on ruff Creek, son's negro boy by name Joe, in case the sd Joe should die before my son should become of Lawfull age or Marry then a boy name Toney, a horse and Saddle, two cows & calfs one Bed & furni ture, « doz puter plates « doz knifes & forks for ever. Item [p. 183] Item I give unto my two sons Micajah & James the Tract of Land whereon I now live & the tracts ajoining the same after the death of my wife an equal divition made Micajah the upper part & James the lower part ajoining JeŸse Moorman if they be comes of lawfull age or marry before the death of my wife they or either of them to take poŸsestion in common between them the up per part of sd Lands not lent my wife, also I give a young negro of equal vallue of Achiles as above, a horse & saddle two Cows & calfs, a Bed & furniture « dozen puter plates « doz knifes & forks unto each of them for ever. Item I give unto my daughters by name Elizabeth, Nancy, Lucy, Patsy & Judith Clark unto each as much of my Estate as I have given to my daughter Mildred as soon as they may become of age or either may marry -- In case my beloved wife should prove with child as I believe she is, if a son I give him a tract of Land called Carvers & an entry called Poes, a young negro of equal vallue with his other brothers, a horse & saddle two cows & calfs, a bed & furniture « doz puter plates « doz knifes & forks, if a Daughter to be made equal with the rest of its sisters out of my Estate. Item if either of my said Children should die before they become of lawfull age or marry their parts of the Estate shall be equally divided among the survivors. Item its my desire that my Estate shall be kept as much together as poŸsible in order to enable my executors to pay of the above legasies & to rase the children etc. in case my wife should have a daughter those two tracts of Land, as above called Carvers and Poes to be sold and the money applyed in aid in discharging the above Legacies etc. Also it's my desire at the death of my wife that there shall be an equal divition of the hole of my Estate and disposed of amongst each of my children to them and their Heirs forever. Cabell Andrew Moorman JeŸse Moreman, Jas Clark At a court held for Campbell County the 2d Day of June 1791 The within last Will and Testament of Andrew Moorman Deceased was proved by the oaths of George Cabell and James Clark and by the solomn affirmation of JeŸse Moorman witneŸses thereto subscribed and ordered to be Recorded. And on the motion of John Clark Sr. and Thomas M. Clark two of the Executors in the said will ordered who made oath thereto according to Law, certificate is granted them for obtaining probate thereof in due form giving Security where upon they together with James Clark, William Hen derson and William Moorman their securities entered into and ac knowledged their Bond in the penalty of two Thousand pounds condi- tioned as the Law directs for the said Executors due and faith full administration of the said Decedents Estate and performance of his Will.
