He married Emilie Dobbeck June 10, 1877 in Kokotzko Evangelische, Kokotzko, West Prussia. Emilie was born January 17, 1852 in Kokotzko (now Kokocko), Culm, West Prussia, Germany. Death certificate lists her birthdate as January 7, 1853. Emilie was the daughter of Martin Wilhelm Dobek and Petronella Winkler.

Emilie died 25 May 1918 in Lorain, Lorain County, Ohio, at 66 years of age. She was buried in Lorain, Lorain County, Ohio, Elmwood Cemetery. She was christened January 26, 1852 in Kokotzko Evangelische, Kokotzko, West Prussia. Godparents: Carl ??, Catharine ?? nee Winkler

Johann August Waschke and Emilie Dobbeck had the following children:

• 2 i. August F.² Washke was born in Germany March 17, 1873. August died 17 March 1930 in Lorain County, Ohio, at 57 years of age. He was buried in Lorain, Lorain County, Ohio, Elmwood Cemetery. He married Lavina Stang January 18, 1894 in Lorain County, Ohio.

• 3 ii. John August Washke was born in Amherst, Lorain Co., OH 14 October 1885. He lived at 1119 East River St. in Elyria. He was employed by the city of Elyria, was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Church, and a member of the Eagles of Elyria. John died 28 October 1935 in Elyria, Lorain Co., OH, at 50 years of age. He was buried in Lorain, Lorain County, Ohio, Elmwood Cemetery. He married Mary R. Coon 3 February 1905. Mary was born 1886. Mary died 1968 at 82 years of age.

• 4 iii. Anna L. Washka was born in Ohio 17 January 1889. Anna died 6 April 1909 at 20 years of age. She married John Carr.
