First Generation


1. Anton Biebel. Born in 1611 in Goersdorf, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, Anton died there on 30 Mar 1665; he was 54.1 He was a magistrate in nearby Woerth. By the end of the Thirty Years War (1618-1648), only three families were left living in Goersdorf, all named Biebel.10

Second Generation


2. Hans Biebel. He was the town magistrate and later mayor of Goersdorf. On 18 Nov 1661, Hans married Christina Oster, in Goersdorf, Bas-Rhin, Alsace. Born in 1638 in Goersdorf, Christina died there on 19 Oct 1693; she was 55.1

3. Johann Mathias Biebel. Born on 8 Apr 1667 in Goersdorf, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, Johann Mathias died there on 17 Apr 1749; he was 82. On 30 Jan 1691, when Johann Mathias was 23, he married Anna Magdalena Fischer, in Goersdorf. Born in 1671 in Goersdorf, Anna Magdalena died there on 5 May 1734; she was 63.1

4. Hans Georg Biebel. Born on 5 Feb 1700 in Goersdorf, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, Hans Georg died there on 7 Apr 1758; he was 58. On 11 May 1723, when Hans Georg was 23, he married Maria Eva Burckhardt, daughter of Christoph Burckhardt, in Goersdorf. Born on 5 Jul 1701 in Preuschdorf, Bas-Rhin, Alsace, Maria Eva died in Goersdorf on 20 Oct 1760; she was 59.1

Fifth Generation


5. Hans Adam Biebel (Adam Bible). Born on 4 Jan 1732 in Goersdorf, Alsace, On 19 Nov 1748, when Adam was 16, he married Maria Eva Müller, daughter of Otto Phillip Müller, in Goersdorf, Alsace. After their first child was born and died, Adam and his young wife left their home clandestinely, since emigration was prohibited at the time, and sailed to America from Rotterdam aboard the ship Sandwich, arriving in Philadelphia on November 30, 1750. After living for some time in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, they eventually settled in the Shenandoah Valley, where they lived the rest of their lives. Adam died in Rockingham County, Virginia before 23 Feb 1795, when his widow and son were appointed administrators of his estate. He was 63 when he died. He is probably buried in the old Bible Cemetery in Rockingham County, which is now on the farm belonging to Kathleen Ritchie and her son, John Henry Ritchie. There are at least 9 graves there, marked only by rocks. Maria Eva appeared on tax lists for a couple years after 23 Feb 1795.

  6. ii. Johann Christian (1752-1833).
       
    iii. Eva Catharina. She was born in Mongomery County, Pennsylvania on 31 Oct 1756, and christened at New Hanover Lutheran Church in that county on 28 Nov 1756. I am not aware of any further record of her.
       
    iv. Hans Adam. Born about 1758 in Virginia or Pennsylvania, Adam died in Rockingham County, Virginia on 2 Feb 1826; he was 68. On 17 Sep 1783, when Adam was 25, he married Magdalene Shoemaker in Rockingham County, Virginia.
       
    v. Philip. Born on 16 Sep 1763 in Virginia, Philip died in Warrensburg, Greene County, Tennessee before 1 Jun 1840; he was 76. Philip married Margaret Kaffer.
       
    vi. John. Born 1760/1770 in Rockingham County, Virginia, John died after 1840; he was at least 68. On 12 Jul 1797, when John was 25, he married Rebecca Coffelt, daughter of Phillip Coffelt & Eleanor Ryan, in Greene County, Tennessee. She was born about 1780 in Virginia.
       
    vii. George. Born in 1778, George died in 1816; he was 38. On 26 Oct 1808, when George was 30, he married Elizabeth [Distines/ Dustmer/ Dorshimer], daughter of Charles, in Rockingham County, Virginia.
       
    viii. Ludwig (Lewis). Born about 1780. In 1795, when Lewis was about 15, he married Mary Shoemaker, daughter of George Shoemaker, in Rockingham County, Virginia.
       
    ix. Wilhelmena (Billie). [? No documentation for this child]
       
    x. Becky. [? No documentation for this child]
       
    xi. Ellen. [? No documentation for this child]
       
    xii. Susannah. Born about 1788. Susannah married William Cheriholmes.
       
    xiii. Margaret. [? No documentation for this child]
       
    xiv. Elizabeth. Born about 1761. She married Jacob Vandeventer IN 1777 in Brock's Gap, Virginia.

Sixth Generation


6. Johann Christian Bible. Born on 7 Jan 1752 in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, Christian died in Greene County, Tennessee on 28 Jan 1833; he was 81. In 1775, when Christian was 22, he first married Catherine Vollmann in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Born about 1752, Catherine died about 1787; she was about 35. Christian was a pioneer of Greene County, Tennessee, and the covered wagon in which he moved his household from the Shenandoah Valley is now on exhibit at the Davy Crockett Museum in Morristown, Tennessee.
       
  They had the following children:
       
    i. John. Born on 4 Oct 1777 in Harrisburg, Virginia, John died in Greene County, Tennessee on 20 Aug 1850; he was 72. He fought in the War of 1812. Buried in Gum Springs Cemetery, Green County, Tennessee. On 28 Nov 1798, when John was 21, he married Elizabeth Pickle in Knoxville, Tennessee. Born on 10 Mar 1779, Elizabeth died in Greene County, Tennessee on 19 Apr 1862; she was 83.
       
  7. ii. Elizabeth (about 1779-1855)
       
    iii. Mary. Born on 10 Jan 1779 in Virginia, Mary died in Cocke County, Tennessee on 13 Jan 1853; she was 74. On 26 Jan 1798, when Mary was 19, she married Jacob Easterly in Greene County, Tennessee.
       
    iv. Christian. Born about 1782 in Virginia, Christian died in Greene County, Tennessee on 17 Dec 1806; he was 24.
       
    v. George. Born on 3 Oct 1783 in Harrisonburg, Virginia, George died in Cocke County, Tennessee about 1862; he was 78. Buried in Del Rio, Tennessee. In 1804, when George was 20, he married Martha Keicher.
       
    vi. Adam. Born in 1786 in Virginia, Adam died in Greene County, Tennessee on 8 Oct 1862; he was 76. Adam first married Elizabeth Smelcer. On 19 Dec 1808, when Adam was 22, he second married Elizabeth Neas, daughter of John Nehs & Elizabeth Rausch, in Greene County, Tennessee.
       
    vii. Philip. Born on 3 Sep 1773.
       
  In 1787/1788 when Christian was about 34, he second married Margareth Speagle in Virginia.
       
  They had the following children:
       
    i. Lewis. Born after 1786 in Virginia, Lewis died in Greene County, Tennessee on 20 Oct 1843; he was 57.
       
    ii. Catherine. Born on 23 Nov 1789 in Virginia, Catherine died in Greene County, Tennessee on 18 Jul 1842; she was 52. Catherine married Phillip Easterly.
       
    iii. Jacob. Born on 25 Sep 1791 in Greene County, Tennessee, Jacob died in Greene County, Tennessee on 28 May 1850; he was 58. Buried in Gum Springs Cemetery, Green County, Tennessee.4
       
    iv. Sarah. Born about 1795 in Greene County, Tennessee. She married Jacob Bottles.
       
    v. Abraham. Born on 22 Mar 1798 in Greene County, Tennessee, Abraham died in Greene County, Tennessee on 16 Sep 1863; he was 65. Abraham married Sena Parrott.
       
    vi. Isaac. Born about 1800 in Greene County, Tennessee, Isaac died there about 1872; he was 72. On 3 Sep 1822, when Isaac was 22, he married Elizabeth Harmon in Greene County, Tennessee.

Seventh Generation


7. Elizabeth Bible. Born in 1777 in North Carolina.2 Elizabeth died in 1860/1870; she was 83.3 On 16 Mar 1793, when Elizabeth was 16, she married Rudolph Isaac Criscillis, son of Otto Rudolph Crecelius & Maria Elisabetha Diederle, in Greene County, Tennessee. Born on 30 Mar 1772 in Frederick County, Maryland, Isaac died in Whitley County, Kentucky on 14 Apr 1852; he was 80.4   Find Isaac and Elizabeth on the Crecelius page.
       
  They had the following children:
       
    i. George Criscillis. Born about 1797 in Greene County, Tennessee. George died after 1853; he was 56. George married Ruth Bowdoin. Born about 1797 in North Carolina, Ruth died (in Clinton County, Kentucky?) after 1870; she was at least 73.
       
  8. ii. Catherine Criscillis (1800-1901). Born on 19 Oct 1800 in Greene County, Tennessee, Catherine died in Whitley County, Kentucky on 11 Jan 1901; she was 100.8 Buried in Jellico Creek Cemetery, Whitley County, Kentucky. On 27 Feb 1823, when Catherine was 22, she married Solomon H. West, son of Alexander West & Sarah Hawkins, in Whitley County, Kentucky.9 Born on 15 Jul 1800 in South Carolina, Solomon died in Whitley County, Kentucky on 19 Dec 1866; he was 66.4 Find Solomon H.     iii. Elizabeth ("Betsy") Criscillis. Born on 16 Aug 1807 in Greene County, Tennessee, Betsy died in Pulaski County, Kentucky on 5 Jan 1892; she was 84. Buried in Old Tatesville Cemetery, Pulaski County. On 8 Sep 1825, when Betsy was 18, she married Baptist McKee, son of Mathew McKee & Mary ("Polly") Clarke, in Whitley County, Kentucky. Born about 1808 in Tennessee.5 Baptist died in Whitley County, Kentucky 1860/1865; he was 52.
       
    iv. William Criscillis. Born on 25 Dec 1809 in Greene County, Tennessee. William died in Whitley County, Kentucky on 27 May 1889; he was 79.4,6 Buried in Jellico Creek Cemetery, Whitley County, Kentucky. On 27 Mar 1829, when William was 19, he first married Jane "Jenny" Harmon, daughter of Jacob Harmon & Mary "Polly" Shelly, in Whitley County, Kentucky. Born on 15 Oct 1811 in Knox County, Kentucky, Jenny died in Whitley County, Kentucky on 9 Nov 1872; she was 61.7 On 30 Sep 1875, when William was 65, he second married Rebecca Corder in Whitley County, Kentucky. He was born about 1830.8
       
    v. James C. Criscillis. Born on 23 Jun 1821 in Greene County, Tennessee, James C. died in Whitley County, Kentucky on 13 May 1896; he was 74.4 Buried in Jellico Creek Cemetery, Whitley County, Kentucky. On 23 Jul 1835 when James C. was 14, he first married Eliza Campbell, daughter of William & Elizabeth Campbell, in Whitley County, Kentucky. Born on 18 Aug 1818 in Whitley County, Kentucky. Eliza died there on 30 Jun 1868; she was 49. On 21 Jan 1869 when James C. was 47, he second married Jane Shelly, daughter of Nathan Shelly & Mary "Polly" Meadors, in Whitley County, Kentucky. Born on 18 Mar 1825 in Whitley County, Kentucky. Jane died there on 30 Oct 1903; she was 78.
       
    vi. Susannah ("Susan") Criscillis. Born on 21 Sep 1821 in Tennessee,3 Susannah "Susan" died in Whitley County, Kentucky on 4 Feb 1880; she was 58. On 19 Dec 1839, when Susan was 18, she married William Ross, son of John Ross & Elizabeth Chitwood, in Whitley County, Kentucky.9 Born on 20 Jul 1813 in Whitley County, Kentucky, William died in Whitley County, Kentucky about 1863; he was about 49.
