Norwich, England

Norwich, England to 1650

When our Creekmore ancestors were there, the city was surrounded by a massive wall with over 40 towers and 12 gates. The gates were all pulled down about 150 years after Edmund Creekmore and Jane Wood left to begin their lives in the new world.

St. Mary at Coslany

St. Mary at Coslany

This is the church in which George Crickmur and Margaret Rooke were married in 1623,
and where Edmund Crickmur was christened in 1627.

The round Saxon tower at the west end is the oldest structure in Norwich, dating from 1070.
The main body of the church was built in 1477.

I am indebted to Alan F. Ellis, who very kindly sent me a photograph of the church and told me when it was built; and to my brother, Bill Parker, who towed away the Volvo which was parked in front of it (with the assistance of Photoshop).

I have much more to add to this page to show what life was like for the inhabitants of Norwich when our ancestors were there; it will just take me a while to get it done. I hope you'll check back from time to time and see what's new.
