Quotes and Poems

There is sobbing of the strong,
And a pall upon the land;
But the People in their weeping
Bare the iron hand;
Beware the People weeping
When they bare the iron hand."

~~ Herman Melville, "The Martyr,"
upon the death of Abraham Lincoln.

"I fear that all we have done is awakened a sleeping giant,
and filled it with a desire for vengeance."

~~ Adm. Yamamoto, after the attack on Pearl Harbor

"Kites rise highest against the wind; not with it."

~~ Sir Winston Churchill

Poems from Holland

DUST COVERS THE SKY

Dust in the sky above the land of the brave
Emotions of hurt spreading a wave
Amongst all of the people all over this land
Here from my Holland we reach out our hand
The pain of your children no mama or dad
Still waiting for them it is so sad
Their lives now ruined for years to come
Killing my senses just feeling numb

Dust in the sky spreading a wave
Above the land of our hope, the land of thebrave
But my hope whatever in future will be
Will always stay in that heart here of me
Be brave my friends in this time of need
Destruct and destroy this growing weed
The head of this snake with the heel of ourfoot
For never again to be able to root

Karel

CLEARING THE SKY

The dust now has fallen and grey is the street
I can hear all of you crying the ones now in need
The street once the centre, the heart of you all
Although now grey, its spirit never will fall
Be brave and give us your hope and stay free
Like once all of your brave, did so for me
This smallest of countries so far away
You once set it free I hope it will stay
I wouldn't be writing the way that I do
I wouldn't be free if it wasn't for you
So I pray for your Hero's for that's what they are
Fallen as victims to evil that came from so far
I pray for your children and for all the men
I pray for your women as much as I can
I pray to the Lord that soon this may end
I pray for you all I'm only one friend
