Notes for Capt. John Langworthy (ca 1752)
There is no proof that Capt. John Langworthy was the son of John Langworthy and Abigail Munroe, but:

* In the 1774 census of Newport, Rhode Island Abigail Langworthy appears as the head of household, with one male over 16 living with her.

* A list of tax payers in Newport in 1775 has only two Langworthys: Andrew the son of James, whose wife was named Elizabeth and had no children as far as we know, and John Langworthy. Abigail does not appear. So it seems likely that John was in Abigail’s household in 1774, and paid taxes in 1775.

* There are two records suggesting that the John Langworthy of Newport moved to Massachusetts:

1) In 1782 the administrator of the estate of Juby Grinnell late of Newport, a widow, sued John Langworthy of Dartmouth, sailmaker, saying he had come and “possessed himself” of goods belonging to the estate.3658 So it seems John of Dartmouth had connections to Newport.

2) Capt. John’s death record says that he was “formerly of Rhode Island”3659.

The above implies that he moved from Newport to Massachusetts before 1782.
