The date of Mary’ birth, as calculated from the censuses, jumps around just as her husband’s does but, interestingly, she’s always 2, 3, or 4 years younger that he. So I’ve used an estimate of 3 years younger, so born ca 1832.

Mary appears with Sanford in the 1880 census, but Sanford, a widower, married Elizabeth Jeffers Straight in 1886. So I’ve assumed that Mary died about 1883.

The Find A Grave website (www.findagrave.com) has a picture of a gravestone which says Langworthy on the top, and has the names Frank E, Martha and Mary on the front face. There are no dates or other information. I think this is probably the gravestone for Sanford’s wife Mary, and either a gravestone or a memorial for two of her children, Frank and Martha.
