Notes for Elizabeth Farr
Elizabeth or Betsey.
Elizabeth’s brother Levi Farr, a successful physician and surgeon, left her money in his will, dated July 12, 1854:
“ I will and bequeath unto my Trustee ?.. one thousand dollars , the interest of which together with a further sum taken from said one thousand shall make up one hundred dollars to be paid annually (that is the one hundred) to my sister Betsey Langworthy now of or near Fulton until said one thousand dollars shall be absorbed or during her natural life and whatever may remain after her decease to be divided equally between her remaining children.” (NY Probate Records, Chenango Co., Book G, p461 ff).
Note that although the 1860 Census says that Elizabeth was living in Granby, Oswego Co., her post office is given as Fulton.
The birth dates of the children of Willard and Elizabeth haven’t been found in any vital records and are difficult to estimate from the ages given various censuses. The 1850 ages, in particular, may have been chosen to make unmarried children more ‘eligible’. So I’ve ventured a best guess based on all censuses and cemetery records.
Census Tracking:
* 1840 - Whitestown, Oneida Co., New York
* 1850 - Lysander, Onondaga Co., New York
Note: Living next door to the family of her son-in-law, George Snow
* 1855 State Census of Granby, Oswego Co., New York
Note: Living with her son-in-law, George Snow
* 1860 - Granby, Oswego Co., New York
Note: Living in the same household is Asa Farr, age 73, perhaps a relative.
Note: The records of Granby Cemetery say that this Betsey Langworthy was the wife of Willard.
