“At the age of eight he removed with his family from North Stonington, Conn,. to Genesee, Allegany Co, where he remained until he became 21. In the fall of 1847 he came to Main Settlement in Portville, where he has since resided. A raftsman thirty-nine years he ran lumber as a jobber to most of the ports along the Allegany and Ohio rivers to Cincinnati. He also purchased and had manufactured lumber on his own account. He was a carpenter by trade and now attends to his farm. He has served as a magistrate a long term of years.”
