On May 21, 1804 Asa Langworthy was granted a Seamen’s Protection Certificate in New London, Connecticut. These certificates were given to US citizens serving on US vessels and were intended to protect the men from impressment by the British. The certificate tells us that Asa was an active seaman in 1804, and also that he was 22, born in Stonington, was 5’11” with light complexion and ‘darkish eyes’.
