Notes for Benjamin Kenyon Langworthy (1781)
On May 12, 1803 Benjamin Langworthy was granted a Seamen’s Protection Certificate in New London, Connecticut. These certificates were given to US citizens serving on US vessels and were intended to protect the men from impressment by the British. The certificate tells us that Benjamin was an active seaman in 1803, and also that he was 22, born in Hopkinton, and was 5’6” with light complexion.
