Notes for Sanford Langworthy (1782)
On May 6, 1806 Sanford Langworthy was granted a Seamen’s Protection Certificate in New London, Connecticut. These certificates were given to US citizens serving on US vessels and were intended to protect the men from impressment by the British. The certificate tells us that Sanford was an active seaman in 1806, and also that he was 23, born in Hopkinton, was 5’8” with light complexion and had a “small scar on right thigh”.

.Sanford and Margaret spent their early life in New York City but later lived in Hopkinton, RI. Commonly called Uncle Sanford and Aunt Margaret and noted for their hospitality.645
