Notes for John Langworthy (ca 1720)
The Rhode Island Vital Records (V5) state that John Langworthy Junior married Abigail Monro in 1742. If he were about 21 then, he would have been born about 1720.

The Westerly Town Council granted a certificate to John Langworthy his wife and family to move from Westerly to Charlestown, Rhode Island, March 27, 1749.571

John moved from Westerly to Charleston after both of his parents had died - so the phrase ‘John Langworthy his wife and family’ probably implies they had children.

No trace of John or his family has been found in Charlestown, but:

* A list of letters remaining in the Post Office at Newport, Sept 13, 1762 includes Abigail Langworthy. The only known candidate is John’s wife. (The Newport Mercury, Sept 14, 1762)

* Abigail Langworthy and a male older than 16 appear in the 1774 census of Newport, Rhode Island. Again, John’s wife is the only known candidate for this Abigail. So this web site proposes that the Langworthys in this census are John’s widow and son John.

An implication of this is that John (ca 1720) probably died before June 1, 1774 (the date of the census), and perhaps before 1762.
