Notes for Ira Langworthy (ca 1799)
Isaac Russell Langworthy, a nephew, said that Sanford (ca 1776) had a son named Ira. There is no proof (yet) that this Ira was that son, but the coincidences of names in the family groupings, the ages of the individuals, and the lack of other good candidates for the match make it likely.
According to “The Descendants of Richard Card”, by Maxine Phelps Lines, Ora (sic) Langworthy and Drusilla Card had children:
Lucy
Mary
Sally
Job
John
Martha
William
The 1830 Census does show the presence of 3 young females, but it appears that this list is either inaccurate or incomplete: Betsey Jane Russell, who died in Michigan in 1906, said that Ira and Drusilla were her parents.
Census Tracking:
* 1830 - Parish, Oswego Co., New York
* 1840 - West Monroe, Oswego Co., New York
* 1850 - West Monroe, Oswego Co., New York
Note: It seems that Ira was not in good health in 1850. His wife was listed as the head of household and he was listed last, with no occupation given, and it’s indicated that he could not read or write. So Ira may not have lived long after that.
