Kiron's
30th Anniversary
Saturday will
be a big day for Kiron and community when the celebration of
the 30th anniversary of the birth of the town takes place. Preparations
have been made to entertain the visitors with ball games and
sports and the businessmen have two tons of watermelon with which
to treat the crowd.
In the afternoon there will be stunt flying by an aeroplane
and rides at the usual rates will be offered for those who wish
to fly.
Thirty years ago Saturday, the sale of lots took place and many
of the businessmen who engaged in business in the new location
had been previously engaged in business at Old Kiron. The change
in location was caused by the building of a railroad through
this territory. The town site was bought from N. P. Swanson
who at that time farmed the land which now is the town of Kiron.
Of the charter members of the town, who took part in the original
sale of lots, the following are engaged in business here today;
P. A. Peterson, Blacksmith, and the Peterson family was the
first family to live here as a family; E. E. Clauson, Furniture,
V. E. Michaelson, Implements, G. A. Norelius, General Merchandise,
W. J. Sandberg, Cashier of the Kiron State Bank, and H. L. Ward.
All of these men have been continuously engaged in business
for the past thirty years and are as active and progressive as
they were thirty years ago. They and those who have since come
have built a business and social community which is second to
none. The community of Kiron, for Kiron is more than a town,
is a solid section of town and country that works as a unit in
business, church and society, is the envy of the state. In proportion
to its population, Kiron does more business, is a better community
center and a more progressive class of people than found anywhere
bar none.
Where else can you find a town of less than three hundred in
population that has a public library, a thriving green house,
almost a score of business institutions, and a weekly newspaper
that have been loyally and consistently supported for a quarter
of a century?
The community realizes these things and in a spirit of pardonable
pride and thankfulness will observe this day in the spirit which
has made Kiron, Kiron.
