Many families in the greater Kiron community have old family albums. In the collection presented here, the Salmonsons are sharing pictures of their ancestors. The Salmonson name first appeared on the Kiron scene when Johan Alfred Salmonsson arrived in 1884. He came from the village of Fyrunga which is in the Skaraborgs province of Västergötland. Johan Alfred paved the way for his siblings to emigrate also. Carl Gustaf Salomonsson came in 1886 and was followed by younger brother Per Adolf in 1887. A couple of years later their sister Augusta came in 1892 and in 1894 came younger sister Alma Kristina. The four younger brothers and sisters were born in Kvänum village in Skaraborg.
Johan Alfred married Mathilda Danielson. Mathilda was born in the Skaraborg village of Marum and she emigrated in 1893. Her older brothers, Carl Johan and Alfred Danielson, were already in the Kiron area and her younger sister Alma is thought to have come with her. Johan Alfred and Mathilda Salmonson had a family of four: Walter, Esther, Harry, and Ethel. Ethel died as an infant and Harry only lived 10 years. In this collection is a fascinating picture of the transportation commonly used in the early 1900's. We tried to capture enough detail so that you get a good view of the construction of the 'buggy' and the harness.
More pictures of members of this family - namely Adolph - can be found in the Kiron Baptist group pictures.
August 1999: Pictures in this collection were furnished by Ron Salmonson.
