Farm Activities

What did people who lived on farms "do"? They raised crops in the fields. They tended to meat production animals. They did farm place chores. They maintained their farm production equipment including machinery of all types, horses in the times past, and later tractors. They were the custodians of an extensive set of buildings and fences of all types. They were responsible for both their water supply and their sewage and garbage disposal. Depending on the location, they may have been responsible for access roads. They provided for most of their own food with egg producing poultry, milk producing cows, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and flocks of chickens, ducks, geese, etc. for meat. And many other things of necessity.

In this section we hope to present "snapshots" into the lives of people doing these activities. We have a good start with a generous contribution by the Russell Gustafson family. We hope you readers will join in and volunteer selections from your collections. Everyone will thank you.
