This building replaced a barn destroyed in the tornado
of May 1944. There is a story of survival associated with the
old building. Arvid Widen and his hired help were doing evening
chores in the barn. They went to check on the storm. They were
standing in one of the barn door frames when the winds of the
tornado blew the barn away but left the two of them unharmed inside
the door frame.
