Julius Johnson emigrated from Västra Ed parish in Småland Sweden and purchased 80 acres in the 1870's in the southwest quarter of Stockholm section 20. About 10 years later he purchased the adjoining 80 acres from Olof Lindberg. He married Carrie Bengtsdotter on 14 October 1877. They were the parents of five children - 4 daughters and 1 son. They farmed these 160 acres until 1918 when they retired and moved to Chicago. Carrie died in 1932. Julius lived his final years in Chicago with his daughters and where 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild called him grandpa. He died in 1938 and was brought back to be buried in the Kiron Cemetery alongside his wife of 55 years.
