TANNER: Leatrice TANNER WAGNER.  (Robert TANNER.)

TANNER: Joan TANNER.  (Note from Joan:  I am Joan TANNER, from Madison Co., VA.  My husband is Robert TANNER, a Germanna descendant.  I descend from Matthais HOUSE; both of our families have been in Madison County since before it was named Madison Co.  For the past 5 years I have been primarily tying together the early Madison Co. families.  My data base is well above 50,000.  If I can help anyone researching Madison Co., with the names TANNER, HOUSE, AYLOR, HITT, etc., I will be glad to do so; NOTE!  This applies ONLY to those families that STAYED in Madison Co., or ancestors that were married or left wills there.  I am no help once they traveled out of the area.  {I do courthouse look-ups on marraiges and wills, since I spend part of my day in the courthouse.}  Joan Rosson Tanner---- {Mrs. Robert M. Tanner}.)

If you are researching the TANNER/GERBER surname that is of German origin, you should be aware that the surname TANNER was actually GERBER in Germany.  GERBER in German means TANNER in English.

So, if you are researching TANNER, you should keep in mind that the original name was GERBER, and vice versa, and conduct your searches accordingly.  (Keep in mind that some descendants of the German GERBER family that came to Germanna may have kept the German name, or may have later reverted back to that name.  I think our Germanna GERBER family, though, all changed to the English TANNER.)
