This is the small village of Neuenb�rg, the home of the Blankenbakers, Fleshmans, Schlucters, and Scheibles.
The photo shows a view over the village, which is so small that it nestles nicely among the hills. It is a very quiet place.
There is only one church in Neuenb�rg and it is a Catholic Church (shown here). The records for the Blankenbakers, et al, are recorded in the (Protestant) church for Neuenb�rg, but the physical facility that they used is a mystery.
In all of Germany (that we saw), the buildings are in superb condition, except for this fixer-upper. It looks as if it might have been standing there since the Blankenbakers left town in 1717. Again, it is a mystery why this building has not been repaired.
There is no mystery here. This fellow is well known all over the world. The poster is on the City Hall, where the sign announces that you may talk to the mayor on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon, and on Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. It is a busy place! Neuenb�rg is a part of the larger political unit of "Stadt Kraichtal", which is not to be confused with the Kraichgal over around Schwaigern.
The only political statement we saw was this garage door in Neuenb�rg. We are not what the symbolism is, but I suspect that it is negative, and directed against America.
In the cemetery there is another mystery. There are five or six stones for Jewish people. The plots are not being recycled as is usually the case, so they remain as a memorial. The only clue is that all of them have dates of death that are near the end of WWII. This person died on his 32nd birthday on May 19, 1945.
