Bland Family
The Bland Family of Mecklenburg County Virginia

The earliest known member of our Bland family is Samuel Bland, who died in 1755 in Warwick County, VA. He was thought to have been born around 1700, and he may have been the immigrant ancestor. This family apparently does not fit in with any of the other Bland families in Virginia.

Samuel was married to Martha Merritt, daughter of John Merritt. The eldest child was Merritt Bland, born prior to 1720. There were at least two other children, Thomas and Samuel.

Merritt Bland died in Mecklenburg County, Virginia in 1773. His will mentions a wife, Sarah, and children Samuel, John, Martha, and Elizabeth. We have no information on any of the children except for the son, Samuel L. Bland.
