At one o'clock in the afternoon, William started his team for the hay field to finish haying. When he had about half a load, it began thundering and lightning. A bold struck him and ran the whole length of his body, tearing off both his boots and killing him instantly. It also killed his dog, a few feet from the wagon. His brother, who was loading the wagon, escaped injury. :1415
