During prohibition, Frank brewed beer in his basement from an old German recipe, using a hop bush growing behind the house. His son Richard delivered the beer with a team of horses to the Springville depot and Emil Prichard's roadhouse. :555
Frank learned carpentry at a series of jobs including the Larkin building in Buffalo and Griffith Institute on Academy Street in Springville. Then he worked as a carpenter on his own for many years, building many houses in Springville and the surrounding area. :990
