Notes for Josiah Davidson:
It is believed that the Josiah Davidson who was in Orange Co., NC by 1780 and then Rutherford and Hickman Co., TN was a member of “DNA Family 10,” and that he was the known son of William and Elizabeth (Unknown) Davidson. That William Davidson migrated to Orange Co., NC around 1780, and his son Josiah….who was born in VA in 1766….joined the militia in Orange Co., NC in 1780 at the age of 14, per militia records.
This Josiah Davidson was apparently married to a Polly Unknown, and one of their sons was the later Josiah Davidson who married Mary Finch in Rutherford Co., TN in the 1820s (their marriage bond transcription incorrectly shows this son as “Jonah” Davidson, but a later Finch record show that he was, in fact, named “Josiah”).
This second/younger Josiah Davidson who married Mary
Finch appeared on the 1850 census in Fulton Co., KY.
This father and son “pair of Josiah Davidson's” are shown on the 1840
census in their own households in Rutherford and Hickman Co., TN.
They do not appear to have been related to the other Josiah Davidson who
was in Henry Co., TN in 1840 (maybe a member of “DNA
Family 5”) nor the Josiah Davidson who was in Smith
Also, none of the above four Josiah Davidson’s who were in TN in 1840 appear to have been related to the Josiah Davidson who had been on the 1820 and 1830 Dickson Co., TN census (maybe a member of “DNA Family 4,” per researcher Ruth Kent).
