Davidson County, Tennessee was named in honor of William Lee Davidson (ca. 1746-1781),
colonial soldier, Revolutionary War officer in the North Carolina Third, Forth, and Fifth Regiments
who was killed in action at Valley Forge.

p38..William Lee Davidson, born Lancaster County Pennsylvania, was the noted Revolutionary
soldier, who was killed at Cowan's Ford February 1 1783. A monument was erected to him on the
battleground of Guilford' Courthouse and North Carolina and Tennessee have each honored him
with the name of Davidson County and Davidson College.

After the death of General William Lee Davidson, his widow, Mary Brevard Davidson married Robert
Harris of Cabarrus County, North Carolina. This Robert Harris is buried in Hunter's Graveyard, Cabarrus
County. He died March 22, 1803, aged 66 years, and is buried with his first wife, Mary Wilson Harris,
who died November 10, 1794. Mary Brevard (Davidson) Harris moved west to be with her daughters,
made her will in Logan County, Kentucky, on December 26, 1823, which was proved on the 1st day of
March, 1824.

Missouri. there was a warrant out and several Davidson's were called to testify in Obion ,Tennessee.
(Obion County was formed in 1823 "it was indian territory" when Ephraim was killed) (artical: John Underwood murdered Ephraim B. Davidson of Stewart County, Tennessee on or about 14 Nov. 1821. $100 reward for

for the Continental troops when the army was in great need, 1780. He was appointed, 1781,
brigadier general to succeed William Lee Davidson, who fell at Cowan's Ford. He died in Charlotte
and is buried in the Presbyterian Church yard. Thomas Polk and Susan Spratt, his wife.

Davidson, Thomas G., representative, was born in Jefferson county, Miss., Aug. 6, 1805.
He was admitted to the bar in 1827, removed to Greensburg, La., where he was register
of the land office, and was elected to the state legislature, 1833-46. He was a Democratic
representative in the 34th, 35th and 36th congresses, but withdrew from the 36th congress
in February, 1861, with other secessionists. After the war he again served in the Louisiana
legislature. He died in Livingston parish, La., Sept. 11, 1883.
