Notes for ISRAEL DAVISON:
(Jane Chance compiled a manuscript on her Davison line. She documented
this line for D.A.R., based on the military service of William Davison
(1759-1832), Corporal, second Regiment, Essex County State Troops and
militia, New Jersey.

As for the American origins of this Davison line, a letter from Edward
J. Raser is attached. John Davison of Newark might have been one of
the Jacobite exiles. The Encyclopedia says, "In August 1745, Charles
the Young, Pretender (Bonnie Prince Charlie) landed in the west of
Scotland, gathered strength from the Highland clans and marched south..
The Jacobites met and defeated the Royalists under Sr. John Cope at
Prestonpans, proceeded into England and reached .... Finally, in 1746,
Charles's forces, now greatly depleted, were destroyed by the Duke of
Cumberland's army." Many Jacobites were deported to America with some
going to New Jersey.

Arthur Henry Davison compiled "History and Genealogy of Davison,
Davisson Davidson and Families", Torch Press, Cedar Rapids, IA, 1935.
Mr. Davison died before the book was published, and only one copy was
run. The book is on microfilm, possibly at Sutro. Mr. Davison
corresponded with Jane Chance's grandfather, Albert N. Davison, prior
to the completion of his book and Jane Chance has those letters.

Israel3 Davison (WiIliam2, Johnl) and Luna (Adsit) Davison youngest
son was Andrew A., born 27 October 1839. (I suspect that the middle
initial stood for Adsit.) In the 1855 census, Catharine, Schuyler, NY
is listed Luna Davison, age 56, born Columbia Co., NY with Davison___,
age 15, born Steuben Co., a laborer and Elizabeth, age 11, daughter,
born Steuben. Luna was widowed and lived with or near her daughter,
Hannah Smith. Jane Chance never found when or where Luna died.)

10. RICHARD ANDREW4 DAVISON (ISRAEL3, WILLIAM2, JOHN1) was born
October 27, 1839 in Bradford, New York, and died in Rock Falls,
Whiteside Co., IL.
He married MARY E..

Notes for RICHARD ANDREW DAVISON:
(1870 Census, La Salle, IL:
In 1870, Andrew A. Davison, (same as Richard Andrew Davison) peddler,
was in 4th Ward, Mendota, LaSalle, IL with wife Mary, age 25; Freddie,
4; Daisy, 2:, Estella, born 1870. Jane Chance never found him on the
census again, probably because he became "Richard". (He was Richard
Andrew Davison.)

1880 and 1900 Census, Rock Falls, Whiteside Co., IL (ward 1).
1880: Coloma, IL, p. 172 lists R. A. Davison age 40, b. in NY jewelry
peddler. Lists wife Mary and first six children to Nellie age 6 mos.
1900 Census: Rock Falls, IL, p. 310/322: Richard Davison, age 60, b.
NY, parents from NJ and CT. Sales Clerk. Wife named Mary E. also born
in NY, father from Sweden and mother from NY. Lists 7 children - Fred,
Mortimer, Bert, Nellie, Ralph, Roxie and Frank.

There has been some mix-up among the genealogists about Richard Andrew
Davison's name. Both Jane Chance and Brian Tuckolke originally had
Richard as Andrew A. DAVISON, b. 27 October 1839 in Bradford, NY.
The name and birthdate are in a handwritten list of children of Israel
Davison (first wife Martha, second wife Luna), dating from the 1800's,
that Brian found in the trunk of my great grandmother, Euceba Luella
Davison Schmidt. This name was confirmed in Davison (1935), who says
that Andrew settled in the vicinity of Rock Island (or Sterling), IL.
The name and birthdate are also given by Chance (1995), who gives the
middle initial A.

In the spring of 1997, Brian communicated with Helen Partridge of
Rock Falls, IL, and they discovered that her G grandfather, Richard
A. Davison, and his Andrew A. Davison are the same person (same birth
date, place, migration, etc.). The cause of the name discrepancy is
uncertain, but I suspect that Richard A. is Richard Andrew, that Andrew
is the name he was known by in NY, and that the middle initial A.
inserted by Chance is an error.

So, Richard Andrew Davison was the son of Israel Davison and Luna Adsit,
my GGG grandparents. According to Cleveland (1976) they moved to Hector,
NY in 1836. The 1840 NY census has them in Bradford. Here's a summary
of the Davison family as I know it:)
