ALEXANDER Mecklenburg County NC. "The subject of this sketch is one of the most distinguished farmers that our State has ever produced. His father was Dr. Moses Winslow ALEXANDER, son of Dr. Jas. McKnitt ALEXANDER and Dorey Winslow. Dr. J. McK. ALEXANDER was son of Jno. McKnitt ALEXANDER and Margaret Bain. Jno. Mac. was son of James ALEXANDER and Margaret McKnitt. James ALEXANDER emigrated from Armaugh, Ireland. He went to Chester, Pa., thence to Maryland, where he died. He had twelve children; only two came to North Carolina, Jno. McKnitt ALEXANDER and Hezekiah ALEXANDER, in 1742. The mother of subject of this sketch was Violet W. Graham, daughter of General Jos. Graham and Isabella Davidson of Lincoln county NC. S.B. ALEXANDER was born December 8th, 1840, at Rosedale farm, nine miles north of Charlotte NC. He was prepared for college by Capt. Silas Lindsley, at Rocky River Academy, Cabarrus county, and at the Wadesboro Institute. He entered the University, July, 1856, graduated June, 1860. He was married to Miss Emma P. Nicholson, of Halifax, June, 1872. They had six children. His wife died October 27th, 1880. He was married to Miss Louise Perry, of Franklin, September 16th, 1885.
