The Male Davidson Ancestors of the Male Davidson DNA Donors in

The Male Davidson Ancestors of the Male Davidson DNA Donors in “Family 10” at www.davidsongenes.org

First Generation

David Davidson - died 1687 in James City Co., VA
+ Sarah Unknown
(but maybe a Miss Hunt, Hamblin or Cowles)
William Davidson - died 2 Feb 1687 in James City Co., VA
+ Unknown (if any wife)

The relationship between the above David Davidson and the above William Davidson is unknown, but I suspect that they were closely related.  I do not know if William Davidson married and/or fathered any children, but it is certainly possible that some of the men mentioned below came from him versus from David Davidson.  I assume that it is even possible that the above William Davidson was the father of the above David Davidson, and that William just happened to die in the same year as his son (but I see nothing to substantiate that).

Second Generation

David Davidson (died 1756; son of the above David Davidson)
+ Unknown (maybe a Miss Hunt, Hamblin, Cowles or Hix/Hixe)

There could have been other “second generation” men, either via the above “oldest” David Davidson or via the above “oldest” William Davidson.  If so, however, I have found no definitive record of such men (though an unknown Robert Davidson died in James City Co., VA in the 1730s, per a Bruton Parish record; this Robert Davidson was the Mayor of Williamsburg, VA, and a Williamsburg historian told me that Robert and his wife had no surviving sons).

Third Generation
(all apparently born circa-1710/1720)

Notes:  The above seven kit numbers are for the seven living male Davidson DNA donors who are currently in “Family 10.”  The other apparent “third generation” Davidson men in this family….for whom we currently have no DNA donors….were Ezekiel Davidson (died about 1762 in Charles City Co., VA), Philemon Davidson (died about 1773 in Charles City Co., VA; Philemon could very well have been the son of Ezekiel versus Ezekiel’s brother), Edward Davidson (who married Agnes Mosby; Agnes may have been Edward’s second wife; Edward Davidson died in 1794 in Campbell Co., VA) and Stephen Davidson (who was the executor of the Will in 1756 for the “second generation” David Davidson; Stephen Davidson apparently died in Charles City Co., VA, and he was probably a son of the “second generation” David Davidson).

The “first generation” David Davidson was born in Holland, per his surviving naturalization document.  His land in James City Co., VA had belonged to the Cowles family earlier (David owned that land by 1682).  The “second generation” David Davidson owned his father’s land by the early-1700s.  The Davidson land was in the part of James City Co., VA that was added to Charles City Co., VA in 1720.  The land was just west of the Chickahominy River, and it was in an area that was known as Pease Hill.

The wife of Solomon Davidson could have been named Mary Dancy, since records show that her uncle was named Benjamin Dancy.  Mary married a John New, after Solomon Davidson died.
