Gable Family of the South
Last Will and Testament of David Martin [father of Sarah (Martin) Gable], admitted to probate 7 February 1842, recorded in Anderson County, SC, Will Book, p. 201:
I David Martin of Anderson Dist. do make this my last will and testament.� I will to my
wife Pheby Martin during her life time or widowhood, all my estate for her
support and to raise the chn.� At her death or marriage to be divided between my
chn.� It is my desire that each son to have sixty dollars when he come of age.
I give to my dtr. Sally Gables two cows and calves, one side saddle, two tables,
on new spinning wheel, one bed and clothing.� I appoint my son James O. Martin
and John Spearman my executors.� Dated 4 Jan. 1842.
Wit: David Whitman, David Martin, John A. Martin.

Ord. A. D. 7 Feb 1842.
The estate of David Martin was admr. 8 April 1850 by
John A., Edmund S., David Martin and Levi Gable who are bound unto Herbert
Hammond, Ord. in the sum of $1,000.
To the Honr. W. W. Humphreys Judge of
Probate.
Your petitioner John A. Martin sheweth that his father David Martin
departed this life in the year 1842, leaving a will by the provision of which
his wife is to have the land to support herself and his chn. nameing his son
James O. Martin and John Spearman as executors.� Qualified as such on the 7 Feb.
1842.� In the year 1849 the executor James O. Martin departed this life, and in
1850 the surviving executor departed this life.� In the year 1857 his mother,
the widow of David Martin departed this life.� Under the letter of admr. dated 8
Apr. 1850 to your petitioner will pray for a sale of the real estate, consisting
of one tract containing 114 acres, adj. land of Dr. James Spearman, John James,
Howard, F. S. Hall, lying on Conoe Creek waters of Little Generostee waters of
Savannah River.� Heirs: Sarah the wife of Levi Gable, Robert G. Martin, heirs at
law of James O. Martin to wit, R. Harrison Martin, Louiza J. Martin who are of
age and J. J. Martin a minor, all who resides in this state.� David and E. S.
Martin resides beyond the limits of this state, Edmond S. Martin resides out of
state.
