Many centers have set up small networks to load a portion or all of the church's CD's. The primary advantages are speed and elimination of many of the hassles working with CD's.

It is possible to load a single CD like the Catalog all the way up to all the CD's. I set my first family history center up in the spring of 1998 by loading the Ancestral File and Catalog on an 8 gig drive. My next system had four 13 Gig drives and all the CD's loaded. Following that Ileen Johnson asked me to answer some of the questions that were raised on the FHCNET-L mailing list.

I do not work in a family history center and never have, but have a desire to see technology used to it's fullest to accomplish this work. Since I do not work in a center, I am limited in the testing that I can do. It took more than a year to get permission (from my FHC director) to install a small network in my own stake FH center. Many of the people on this list have done a lot more and have more computer knowledge. I wanted to get the list started to take some of the load off the FHCNET-L and provide better support for those that needed it.
