Hi, Your site is wonderful for us Pioneers. We are working on the Sapp family from the Starke area and this is what I have from notes from the family.
John Patrick Sapp b1853 m Anna W. Tison b 1876 daughter of Edmund Tison m Betsy Ann PLATT (lived on New River near Pine Grove Church...buried side-by-side in Sapp Cemetery) "Old man Platt, a methodist preacher, lived on New River and later moved to Manatee Co., had a son named Joshua, had another son thought to be named Cicero. He raised his family on New River..."
Is this the same family?

Hi, again. Yes, I am Dianne Sapp who must have written to you several years ago, but many family situations have prevented me from following up on your correspondence until now. It has been a hit and miss proposition to just get ready for the Sapp Reunion each year...of which we are in charge!
These notes came from an old ledger that one of the girls wrote memories in. At the top of page 92 it reads " Ben Tison married Belle Platt...lived on New River...had several children namely Mrs. Letia Whitehead and Mrs. Catharine Dawling

Edmund Tison married Betsy Ann Platt...lived on New River near Pine Grove Church...Had seveal children...namely
Adam Tison m Dora Ogdon
Yancey Tison m James H. Ritch
Rhoda Tison m Green Berry Sapp
Anna "Annie" Welthy Tison m John P. Sapp 11/14/1864
Serena Tison m George Dyal

(The next paragraph is the one I sent to you.)

New River was in the area of Baker/Bradford/Union Co, FL It was divided later to form new counties. I have not researched this in detail. It seems it was the first county over the GA line when you came to FL. I have pictures of the Tison headstones, but cannot make them out now. Maybe I wrote them down, too, but I'll have to look in all my books!

We have created a book for each family head back to Darling Sapp, RS and display them each year and display artifacts we have collected. This is soooo exciting if we can make the connection.
Dianne

Deed: Adam Platt to Joshua Newell for (torn) acres, Acknowledge; Ordered registered

While it appears that neither Adam or his one known
son, Joshua Platt were married in Duplin Co., NC, Adam does appear as the
bondsman for three separate marriages:

ALLEN, Henry to Anne Bowzer April 19, 1785
PARKER, Hardy to Susana Bowzer April 19, 1785
WELLS, Jacob to Mary Bowzer March 10, 1785

There is of course one obvious link, all three women were Bowzers, and they
were all three married within almost a month of one another. Adam would
have been about 40, as he was born about 1745. I would tend to think that
these might be sister in laws but they would have to probably be his
wifes younger sisters.

On 6 Jan 1833 Jacob Wells personally appeared before Alfred Ward and

of Duplin. The old soldier was said to be a resident of New Hanover County,
N.C., age 74 and some months, who being first duly sworn according to law
doth on his oath make the following deposition in order to obtain the
benefit of the Act of Congress passed 7 June 1832:

That he entered the service of the U.S. under the following named officers
and served as herein stated, Col. Thomas Routledge, Major not recollected,
that he entered the service under Capt. Frederick Wells, Lieutenant and
Ensign not recollected, and Sgt. Adam Platt,

A list of 231 settlers along the swamp are listed in the minutes. Included
are abt 60 names NOT on the 1783 Tax List of Duplin, 1786 State Census or
1790 Federal Census. 92 Negroes & 14 by name & 7 sons of the settlers. The
effort covers abt 20 mi & is divided into 17 Districts. Most settlers lived
within 2 mi of the swamp & assigned tothe district nearest them. (14 to 23

Family not in 1790c but is in 1800 and 1810c. I put Adam's YOB as 1740-1745
and Joshua c1770. Joshua lived in Brunswick Co. in 1800 but is in 1810 and
both in Duplin. I now believe that Adam was married twice and died in Duplin
before family moved south. 1800c for Adam was 01001-10001. Joshua was

I am not connected. I do Revolutionary War Soldiers. Adam had children
spread out 1770 to 1800 and that may work for one wife but it would be hard.
I have no marriage info. Adam patented 4X100 acres starting in 1767 and
Joshua II patented 10a in 1804. Joshua was in Lowndes Co. Ga in 1830 and
Atachua Co. FL at age 80 in 1850. Do you know his wife? Adam is not listed
in 1790c, that is why I thought that he moved. Adam lived near
Rockfish....that is near Wallace NC. Jerome

The earliest land purchase record by Allen which we have found was on 17 Feb 1836, when he bought 240 acres of land in Madison County, Florida from David Platt for $1000 [Madison County Florida Deed Book A, page 128]. This land consisted of the southeast quarter and east half of the southwest quarter of Section 10, Township 2E - Range 9E (David Platt had bought this land on 22 December 1830 as cash entry 3814 from the government). On 2 Dec 1836, 11 months later, Allen and Sarah sold this land, as well as, the northeast quarter of Section 10 (160 acres) and 40 acres in Section 15 to Dennis Hankins for $3000 (Madison County Florida Deed Book A, page 95). No record has been found as to when Allen obtained the NE quarter of Section 10. The purchase of that section may have occurred long before 1836 and may represent the earliest purchase of land in Florida by Allen. The 40 acres in Section 15 was purchased by Allen from the goverment on 21 May 1836 for $50 as cash entry 5677. Between 1836 and 1840, Allen purchased from the government 11 tracts of land situated in Sections 14, 15, 22, and 23 in Township 2E - Range 9E. He also purchased land in this same area from private individuals including his brother David R.. These lands are located about 3 miles south of Cherry Lake. Land records indicate that as his children married he deeded land to them.
