Subject: Re: Blanton's

Christopher,

Thanks for your response to my query about the Blantons. The Sunnyside
Cemetary is only about 2 miles from my house and I have been there many
times as that is where my fathers mother and father are buried, as well as
Florissa Platt and her husband. I even have a great-great grandmother buried
there. I was hoping to discover where Jesse Goodman Blanton is buried, he
died in 1891, I am thinking
probably in Pasco/Hernando. Also, the way my father remembers the story, my
grandmother who was born in Blanton, Pasco County, had two little sisters
who died of malaria just before the family moved here to St. Petersburg.
There must be a Blanton cemetary in that area somewhere. Thanks for the
additional info you sent on some of my Blanton family, dates and places of
death, etc. I had some of it, but not all.

Platt, Lewis Walter (b. FEB 1880, d. ?)

Christopher,

John Rader Platt, son of James Newton Platt, has been in touch with me. He
has e-mail and wrote to me that he would be glad to share with you what he
knows about his father and his uncle, Lewis Walter Platt and I'm sure
anything else he might remember about the family. His e-mail address is
marylou@@hargray.com

I haven't spoken to him about genealogy yet, so if you do get some new info
I'd wouldn't mind hearing about it. And maybe he knows something about the
murder.

I told my father about the murder and he said, oh yes, he knew about that. I
can't imagine that he didn't tell me. He said that his parents never
mentioned it, but Everett Sumner told him about it. He is the son of
Elizabeth Alice Platt. I will be interested in reading the articles. My dad
believes that it was never solved. Everett was only 5 when it happened so I
am sure that this story has gone through several variations over the years,
but he told my father that there was a black man working with her at the
house when it happened. Even though no one ever saw him again he was not a
suspect. The family knew him well and didn't feel that he could/would have
done it. The thought was more that he also got killed somewhere, though they
didn't find a body. I found an article about it in the St. Petersburg paper
and it never mentioned any one else's involvement at all so perhaps the
story has become mixed up with the retelling.

I hope that John Platt will be some help to you. Let me know what comes of
the connection.
