Hi Christopher!
Sorry I've been so long responding...but, we're having a POLK family reunion
this Saturday at my house..Yikes!
First of all, the break-through information came to my brother from an
ancestor of Dorcas Polk Roberts. The following is a copy of the e-mail he
sent...his e-mail address is at the bottom, and I'm sure you two might be
able to help each other out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I read your query in the genforum page for polk. I decend from Dorcas Polk
who married Henry Roberts. Dorcas was the sister of your ancestor James C.
S. Polk., in addition Mary Jane Platt was the sister of John Platt and
William Platt. John married Susan E. Roberts daughter of Henry and Dorcas
Polk Roberts, and William Platt married Susan Polk sister of Dorcas and
James C. S. Polk. I have a picture of Dorcas Polk Roberts and would like to
know more about their parents.
Thanks.....Wes Wilson
wgwilson@@gateway.net
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One thing I'd like to know for sure is Mary Jane's correct birth year...I
have it as 1823, but on the 1860 Alachua Census, she lists her age as 39,
which makes me wonder if she was born in 1821? I finally found James
C.A.Polk's birth on the web and it seems he was born in Barnwell Cty., S.C.
in 1811...the family bible said 1813...and instead of listing his parents
names, it just said "Polk"...Arggghhh! I would also like more information
on David Platt and Mary Rowe when you get a chance...no hurry!
Well, it's taken me about 2 years to get to this point, and I never dreamed
I'd get so far with the Platt line! Thanks so much for all of your help and
encouragement. Would you like me to send you the children of James and Mary
Jane for your database? Just let me know.
I just checked out your website...it's coming along very well...I'm hoping
to visit Gapway Cemetary in Lakeland next week...perhaps I'll be able to
send you some information. By the way, the Polk family donated the land for
that cemetary!
Thanks again!
Martie

Hi Christopher,
I haven't been in contact with you for sometime now, but I finally have a bit more info on my PLATT relatives, and I hope you will have something to help me go further!
My GGGrandmother was Mary Jane PLATT POLK b.05/02/1823 we believe in GA. She married James Conners Alexander POLK b. 10-16-1811(12-13?) .
I just got some new information yesterday that Mary Jane is the sister of John PLATT m. Susan E. ROBERTS (daughter of my GGGrandfather's sister Dorcas POLK ROBERTS m. Henry ROBERTS) and the sister of William PLATT m. Susan POLK (sister of Dorcas and James C.A.POLK).
Do you have anything on John or William PLATT?
Thanks lots,
Martie Tallent
