Monday, July 20

Read cool. Cleaned upstairs & down. Surely seemed good to be rid of dust for awhile. Mom worked out doors & got her lets to bothering. She couldn't hardly walk. Had a late supper. I did dishes & then Buzz & I had a cold shower. Went to bed early. Slept upstairs.

 

Tuesday, July 21

Still nice & cool. Washed. Dandy day. Got along fine. I went to town with Dad after dinner. Got gas strainer & library books. Saw Jean K. Walked home! Robert Jones killed in auto accident. Fixed my hair, cleaned up, had supper & went to bk. Nite. Laurel & Hardy “In Bohemia .” With Prissy. Up there afterwards drinking Bireley's orange juice. Got patterns.

Wednesday, July 22

Still rather cool. Did ironing in am. Had a little trouble with iron at first but it worked fine after I got it going. Slept & read “Self Made Woman” in pm. Had chicken & noodles for supper. Did work up early. I listened to Lucky Strike Hour & took a shower. Up in my room reading till quite late.

 

Thursday, July 23

Made white skirt. Ironed a few things in pm. Read a little. Had supper ready early & then 2 cars of people came! Was I mad! Buzz & I cleaned up went to Band Concert in V-8. Sat on grass. Home at 10:15 & wrote in Diary! A little warmer up here tonite!

 

Friday, July 24

Did usual work. Read “Beauty” and “Self Made Woman” by Faith Baldwin . At nite I cleaned up, (took shower) and went in to town with Dad. He to sale and Prissy & I went to “Golden Arrow.” George Brent & Bette Davis. Up to Prissy's while afterwards. Mr. Horacely from Simpson here to me. Told me about Shorthand.

[Reading must have been in a magazine - Faith Baldwin's book, "Self Made Woman" didn't come out until 1948!]

Saturday, July 25

[added later: I quit at Bryan 's Variety Store]

Cleaned the whole house. Getting terribly hot out. Washed & ironed my white dress. Washed my hair. Dad sick & home all day. Keith & Dick T. here. Leo threshing. Went to watch em scrum(sp?), to library, shopped & went to work. Really hot! Worked ‘till 12:00. I quit Bryan't. 2 much work!

Sunday, July 26

Still awfully hot. Got ready for Lil's & Del. They here for dinner. Made ice cream. I took V-8 & went to pool in pm. Then to ball game. Wore shorts. Max, Pete, Bette Smith, in car. At nite to show “Strike me Pink.”
