"An agent came to get chk on Sat. Eve. Post. Young kid. Mom said we had to save all our pennies for farming. Rude. We kidded her. " Interesting!

Monday, July 13

Supposed to be cool but it wasn't. I scrubbed whole up stairs & cleaned downstairs. Mr. Short here to dinner. Leo went with him to call on Seniors in pm. Lyle came & Bussy & I went down to Pierce's with him. Edna has heart trouble. Got Ina. Buzz & I walked home from Mountain corner. Stopped at Aunt Lucille's. At nite went down to Aun Lil's. Had ice cream & burnt sugar cake. Sang & looked at pictures. Insurance money.

Tuesday, July 14

Did up morning wk & then slept. Woke up wringing wet. Terribly hot. Worst day yet. Leo made candy in pm. We all cleaned up, even Bussy. Ate early supper, cheese sandwiches, did dishes & then laid out on yard. It clouded up but no rain. Sang about every song we could think of. Terribly hot to sleep.

 

Wednesday, July 15

Up early & got work done. Washed in am. Flies terrible & real hot again. Cleaned up house in pm. Laid down on floor awhile but it was too “hot” to sleep. An agent came to get chk on Sat. Eve. Post. Young kid. Mom said we had to save all our pennies for farming. Rude. We kidded her. Made ice cream. Took shower, washed hair. Had to wait on Leo. Prissy & I to “Unguarded Hour.” Franchot Tone, Cleves . Wore white dress. She bought p.corn. Got pt. Honeymoon & went riding. Home with Leo at 10:30. Still hot.

Thursday, July 16

We tried to light the iron but couldn't so I took it back into town & back again. Still didn't work so I went to Jone's. Left Buss at Mountains. Got new Coleman. Surely a honey. At Mountains a while. Did the whole ironing. Terribly hot. Made some vanilla ice cream at nite. No band concert. I took a shower, got ready for bed & slept out on yard with Leo & Bussy.

Friday, July 17

Did up all work. Cleaned whole downstairs. Still hot. Made blue shorts in pm. Ironed them, took shower & cleaned all up. Wore shorts at nite. Read paper, in yard. Got too dark so I laid down with Leo & Bussy awhile, Buzz came in house & slept with me – on dining room floor. Terrific hot.

 

Saturday, July 18

Got housewk done real early. I started “Winning of Barbara Worth.” Wore new shirt. Mr. Cramer came. Leo threshing at Peverstorf's. Went to work at 6:00 in V-8. Surely tired by 12:00. It's too hard work & not enough pay. I think I'll quit.

Sunday, July 19

Not up very early. Had oatmeal & grapefruit for a change. Had chicken & noodles for dinner. Mr. Cramer came rite after dinner. I decided to try extension school in September. Rained hard in pm. & eve. Lil's & Del here awhile. About 1 inch rain. Surely relieved. Real cool. Went to “Capt. January” with Priscilla. Couldn't make Roger hill!
