Pg.318: Tidence Lane, first minister to preach regularly to a TN congregation. Son of Richard and Sarah Lane, was born in MD near Baltimore, August 31, 1724. He was a grandson of Dutton Lane and Pretitia Tidings, and a great-grandson of Major Samuel Lane, an officer in the King's service in the Province of Maryland, in 1680. He was an older brother of Dutton Lane, a pioneer preacher in VA. He was the father of Lt. Isaac Lane, who, under Col. Sevier, performed patriotic service at the battle of King's Mountain. Isaac Lane in 1802 gave the land on which was built the meeting house of the first Baptist church organized in Claiborne Co. TN, the church at Big Spring (now Springdale).
Tidence Lane parents moved to VA and thence to NC where Tidence grew to manhood, and where he married Esther Bibbin (or Bibber) May 9, 1743. Converted by Shubael Stearns. Served as pastor at Buffalo Ridge, Washington Co. TN, 1779. After 4 or 5 years in the "Holston country" Tidence Lane moved into what in now Hamblen [Grainger] Co. Tidence d. Jan 30, 1806.

Large and his wife Elizabeth Large of afsd and Charles Dement of Rutherford Co. in said state, that said Elizabeth Large wife of the said Joseph C. Large, is the legitimate daughter of Abner Duncan and Rachel Dunkin, the said Rachel Duncan the mother of said Elizabeth Large having been a daughter of Joshua Ward, brother to the late William Ward of Rutherford Co. TN and the said Rachel Duncan, the mother of said Elizabeth Large being the same person mentioned and called in the will of the late William Ward as one of three daughters of Joshua Ward a brother of the testator, and the said Rachel being now dead, it is supposed by said Charles Dement that the said Joseph C. Large and his wife Elizabeth hath some interest in the estate of said testator William Ward arising and accrue by the will of said William Ward and by the death of said Rachel Dunkin. And the said Charles Dement being anxious and desirous to purchase such interest as the said Joseph C. Large and Elizabeth Large now have in all the estate both real and personal which was of the late William Ward decd. of Rutherford Co. TN, now be it known ... that we the said Joseph C. Large and Elizabeth Large for $200 paid by said Charles Dement, hereby release and quit claim to said Charles Dement and his heirs all the interest ... that we now have to the estate real or personal of which the said William Ward died seized and possessed and which is mentioned in his last will and testament, hereby empowering the said Charles Dement .. to ask, demand, etc. all such portion of the estate ... wheresoever the same may be found. 14 June 1842. /s/ J.C.
