      H-342: 1 Jan. 1840, John C. Duncan deed of trust to Saml. C. Lowe, horse, furniture etc. and 2/3 corn standing in the field at the late residence of Andrew R. Lowe decd; Saml. Lowe was security for Duncan on 3 bonds to Post Office Department to carry mail from Crossville to 10 mile stand, from Crossville to James town, from Crossville to Pikeville; and a note of $200 to Wm. Gibson and $80 to Bank of TN at Athens, and agreement to pay James Walker $30. Wit. Toliver Rebis. Recorded 15 Jan. 1840.
      H-371: 2 Jan. 1839, Samuel Finley and Wm. Hall of Bledsoe Co. TN to James Orme, $50, 130 acres on Cumberland Mountain on waters of Daddy's Creek. Wit. John C. Duncan, Jessee Worthington.
   Book I, 1840-1844
      I-73: 13 April 1840, John C. Duncan to James Orme, deed of trust of 140 acres adj. the fork of a branch, a glade, so as to include the hereditaments and appertanances thereunto belonging; and 25 acres on Cumberland Mountain on waters of "Obed's?" River, North side of stage road from Knoxville to Sparta; Duncan owes Daniel Brown $148.45 by notes due 17 March 1840 and 24 Oct. 1840. No wit. (MAD: question mark as given in WPA book; rechecked original I-73 on FHL film 593,012, definitely Obeds)
      I-75: 10 March 1840, Samuel (X) Liles to John C. Duncan, $1000, 140 acres in District 1 on Cumberland Mountain on "Keys?" River (same description as deed I-73), so as to include plantation and house where said Duncan now lives and 25 acres on Keys River on North side (same as deed I-73). Wit. W.S. Green Jr., Daniel Brown Jr. (MAD: question mark as given in WPA book; rechecked original I-75 on FHL film 593,012, probably Keys)
