PA, yeoman, that by patent 16 Feb. 1754 granted to Thomas Griffith the following two tracts of land in Shrewsbury Township, York Co., the first beg. at a marked chesnut oak a corner of David Griffiths other land, then by the same and vacant land ... to ... the beginning containing 161 acres and 74 perches, and the other tract beginning at a marked spanish oak, then extending by vacant land ... containing 79 acres and 132 perches, patent entered in Office for recording deeds for City and county of Philadelphia in Patent Book AA Volume 3 Page 378 &c; now for 150 pounds PA money, Thomas Griffeth and Jannet have sold to James Duncan all the first described tract containing 161 acres and 74 perches and also the following described piece of land, part of the above described tract of 79 acres and 132 perches, beg. at a Chesnut a corner of the whole tract, then by a line dividing this part from the residue of the whole tract heretofore sold to Peter Keefer, then ... another corner of the whole tract, then ... to the beginning containing 39 acres and 3/4 of an acre, in the whole containing 201 acres more or less. /s/ Thomas Griffeth, Jannet (X) Griffeth.       2H-461/462: 13 April 1789, Thomas Duncan of Borough of Carlisle, Cumberland Co. PA, Esq., Attorney at law, and wife Martha, to Peter Butler of Hellarn Township, York Co. PA, yeoman; that John Edie Esq. high Sheriff of York Co. by deed pole 12 June last past sold to said Thomas Duncan, party hereto, as the estate of James Hutcheson and wife Martha, a tract of land in Straban Township in York Co. adj. lands of John Manford, William Douglass & others and the Swift Run, containing 257 acres and a half; now this indenture ... the said Thomas Duncan and wife Martha for 700 pounds PA money paid by Peter Butler, sell to Peter Butler the above plantation & tract of 257 acres and a half, together with all houses, etc. /s/ Thos.       2S-239/240: Whereas Joseph Wiley late of Fawn Township, York Co. PA, deceased, by will dated 9 July 1794, among other things, allowed his real estate to be divided into three equal shares among his daughters, with certain alowances and liberties to his wife Elizabeth; that Joseph Wiley's daughter Jenny married James Duncan and Mary married Vincent Norris and Elizabeth at this time unmarried and residing with her mother; now Elizabeth Wiley & Elizabeth Wiley Junr. of the first part, James Duncan & uxr. of the second part, and Vincent Norris & uxr. of the third part, having confidence in William Anderson, James Gemball and The Rev. Alexander Ewing, have chosen them to view the estate and divide it according to the true intent and meaning of the will, and bind ourselves for $5,000 to be paid by the parties refusing, to the parties willing to abide by the division lines, the said William Anderson, James Gemball and the Revd. PA made his will dated 15 Aug. 1804 with a codicil annexed dated 3 March 1806, and did among other legacies give to us, Andrew Duncan Esqr, Andrew Duncan jr, John Duncan, Robert Duncan, Jonathan Duncan & Catharine Duncan, now intermarried with David Williamson, one equal fourth part of all his property, real and personal, excepting some small legacies, and constituted John Kelly? & Robert Gemmill sole executors; we the said Andrew Duncan Esqr, Andrew Duncan jr, John Duncan, Robert Duncan, Jonathan Duncan, David Williamson and wife Catharine, acknowledge that we jointly have received from said John Kelly and Robert Gemmill the sum of $1237.72-1/2 in full of the said legacys. ... Duncan Esqr., ... adj. lands of Peter Keefer now John Fleblers, then ... to the beg., containing 92 acres and 127 perches. In pursuings of an application No. 3836 for 70 acres dated (blank) June 1767, the second tract adj. the above described tract bounded and limited ... beg. ... to the place of beginning containing 45 acres and 71 perches, in pursuance of a warrant granted to the above Andrew Duncan Esqr. 13 Feb. 1793, the whole of the above described two tracts together containing 138 acres and 38 perches. Nevertheless the said Andrew Duncan Esqr. excepting the meadow usually called the upper meadow & belonging to the above land for his own use for one full year from the date of these presents. /s/ Andrew Duncan, Betcey Duncan.
