Duncan deceased, are equally interested in three several tracts or surveys of land, towit, survey number of entry 1174 in Clinton Co., survey number of entry 803 in Fayette Co., survey number of entry 1244 in Madison Co., all in VA Military District between the Little Miami and Scioto Rivers and State of OH, which have been resurveyed and divided into lots agreeably to the following plan or plats of such survey respectively towit (diagram of three square parcels of land, each divided into 3 x 3 square lots of 117-1/2 acres to 132 acres each). The parties desire a partition of the lands should be made and said Elijah May's share set off to him in severalty. NOW in consideration of Lot No.9 containing 117-1/2 acres and all the residue of a lot number 2 part of which has been sold to (blank) Haines, being 70-1/2 acres of land as laid down on the plat of survey number of entry 1174, also lots numbered 4, 5, & 6 containing 116 acres each and lot number 8 containing 137 acres as laid down on the plat of survey number of entry 802, also lots numbered 2 & 8 containing 127 acres and lot number 9 containing 132 acres as laid down ... entry 1244, are conveyed to the said Elijah May by deed bearing even date herewith by John Duncan, Attorney in fact for Howell Lewis Langham Duncan, and as one of the heirs and legal representatives of Robert G. Pg.521-522: JOHN FLETCHER is one of the solid, substantial and trustworthy residents of Elwood Twp. He was born in Clinton Co. OH on May 20, 1815. His father, Henry, was a native of England, and a son of John Fletcher, who in turn was a son of Henry Fletcher. The latter was a wealthy officer in the English army and educated his son John -- the grandfather of the subject of this sketch -- for the army, but he joined the Quaker Church,, and was driven by his father to Ireland, where he was given 60 acres of land in that country. His son, Henry Fletcher, father of our subject, was obliged to leave Ireland or join the army, but being a Quaker, he refused to become a soldier and came to America, locating in Philadelphia. This was in 1793. He was on the ocean ... The father of the subject of this sketch, after landing, lived 3 years in Philadelphia, and in 1796 he emigrated to the Sciota Valley, OH, where he worked on a farm for one season, returning to PA and there remaining until 1804, when he went to Warren Co. OH and dug a mill race on Caesar Creek. He bought 200 acres of military land in Clinton Co. OH and then retraced his steps to PA, remaining there until 1806, when he returned to OH and improved his land. The Indians were numerous but peaceable, in the main.
In 1806, the father of the one of whom we write this sketch, married Mrs. Sarah (Duncan) Taylor. They had four children of whom John is the youngest, and only one living. The others were: Mary, Hannah and Sarah. The sisters all lived to be over 70 years of age. John Fletcher came with his parents to this county in the fall of 1836, settling on the old homestead, where he now lives. He was married in Oct. 1836 to Rachael Ruth. They had 7 children, six of whom are living: Sarah J., Henry, Mary A., John W., Amanda and James. One son, William, died in his 23rd year. Mrs. Fletcher died Oct. 5, 1862 and her husband was again married on Nov. 1st, 1866, to Mrs. Lydia Haworth, widow of Eli Haworth, and dau. of Garrett Dillon, the latter a pioneer of Elwood Twp, and a native of Greene Co. TN. (MAD: more on Dillon family and Haworth children) The grandfather of Mr. Fletcher on his mother's side, Samuel Duncan, was a soldier in the Rev. War and participated in the battle of the Cowpens and others. He had holes shot in his clothes and buttons taken off by bullets, but was not wounded. He was known as the "fighting Quaker," and he sustained his reputation well. He was a teamster, and the Tories captured three of his horses, when he mounted the remaining one, and joined the American forces, afterward recapturing one of his horses. Pg.686, Jefferson Township: Matthew Duncan, (of the firm of Lantz & Duncan, dealers in general merchandise, Mexico, IN), was born in Clinton Co. OH July 7, 1854. His parents, Emanuel and Margaret (Stotlar) Duncan moved to Grant Co. IN about 1856, and from thence, subsequently, to Miami Co. In about 1877, he returned to Grant Co., where he still resides; the mother died in Miami Co. in about 1868. Matthew Duncan, our subject, came with his parents to this county, where he was married August 20, 1877, to Julia A., dau. of John and Julia A. Hines; she was born in Fairfield Co. OH, Oct. 5, 1857. After Mr. Duncan's marriage, he first settled in Fulton Co. IN, where he engaged in farming about one year, after which he moved to Miami Co., and subsequently to Grant Co., where he resided until 1884, when he moved to Mexico, IN, and formed a partnership with Mr. Lantz in the mercantile business, purchasing the interest of Mr. Sullivan. He has had born to him four children, viz: Emanuel (deceased), Marion F., Lillie and Rosie B.; Mr. Duncan and wife are members of the Baptist Church.

Both died in Pennsylvania, the father at age 86, the mother at 85. ... Thirteen children ... Enoch is the only resident of Kansas. ... Age of 22 came to Knox County, Illinois, from which county he went to the war ... at the close of the war returned to Illinois and honorably discharged. After the war Mr. Freed returned to Knox county, and on November 10, 1866, was married there to Eliza Jane Glaze, who has been his wife and partner ... for nearly forty years. She was born in Clinton county, Ohio, February 16, 1848, a daughter of James and Phoebe (Duncan) Glaze, natives, respectively, of Brown county and Adams county, Ohio, whence they moved to near Muncie, Delaware county, Indiana, and later to Knox county, Illinois. The mother died in Monmouth, Kansas, at the age of 86, but the father, who was a soldier, now lives ... Monmouth, this county. Mrs. Freed has a brother, William Perry, who was a soldier of the 9th Indiana Cavalry and now lives at Muncie, Indiana, and four sisters: Sarah A. Northam, Mary E. Johnson, Harriet E. Windsor, and Martha F. Price. Daniel H., a brother, died at the age of 50. ...
