      5-98: Will of Richard Carter of Northampton Co. NC, 16 Oct. 1849, to my friend Dr. Presley K. Garner all my estate, real, personal or mixed, upon the condition that during my lifetime, he furnish me with a decent and proper support and with all proper care and attendance in sickness and in health, suitable to my advanced age and condition; that my just debts be paid by him either before or after my death, and he pay at any time within five years after my death the following pecuniary legacies, without interest: $300 to my son George Carter's children equally to be divided between them, they reside in KY when I last heard from them. Also $100 to Thomas Carter, $100 to Jesse Carter and $100 to Nancy Grizzard wife of Peterson Grizzard; also $50 to my grandson W.H. Riggner (sometimes called Denit?) and a note I hold against him for $50 or thereabouts; also $100 to Powhatan Carstarphen and $100 to Maria Carstarphen children of Nancy Griffin. Appoint my friend Dr. Presly H?. Garner exec., revoking all other wills. Wit. Jas. W. Neurum, David A. Barnes; proved June 1851, Presly M. Garner the exec. qualified.
