Estate of Allen Duncan, decd. On 31 Aug. 1840, appeared Mrs. Sarah Ann Duncan and Uriah Duncan, and petitioned for letters of administration on the estate of Allen Duncan decd. late of said county; that Sarah Ann Duncan (widow), Uriah Duncan, Vianna who married Finis Mann residing in Ripley Co. MO, Joseph Duncan, Rice A. Duncan, Vincent Duncan, Julia Ann Duncan, Mary Ann Duncan, Eliza Ann Duncan, and Martha Ann Duncan, are the only heirs at law, all of whom reside in this county; that the deceased died without a will; that they will make an inventory and pay the debts. /s/ Sarah Ann (X) Duncan, Uriah Duncan.

Dorothy Davis Smith note: Ripley Co. formed 1833 from Wayne, which included present Ripley, Oregon, Carter and Shannon Cos. The first courthouse was located in Van Buren, now Carter Co. MO. In 1847, Doniphan became the county seat.
