MO, SE 1/4 Sec.24 Twp.58 Range 21 containing 160 acres, also NW 1/4 of SW 1/4 and NE 1/4 of SW 1/4 Sec.19, all Twp.58 Range 20, containing 78-75/100 acres more or less, in trust, whereas the said Thomas J. Smith on or about 1 March 1861 delivered to said Enoch Smith his promissory note dated on or about that day for $1145 bearing 10% interest per annum, now if Thomas J. Smith shall on or before 18 Sept. 1864 pay the sum of money specified and all interest that may be due, then this deed to be void and the property hereinbefore conveyed shall be released at the cost of said Thomas J.       Pg.621-2: JOSEPH T. DUNCAN was born Oct. 7, 1871. He is a brother of John H. Duncan, a sketch of whom appears elsewhere in this volume in which the history of the family is briefly told .... On April 18, 1894, Mr. Duncan married Susie A. Curtis, a daughter of Ashbill S. and Sarah (Thorne) Curtis .... Mr. and Mrs. Duncan had 5 children, 4 of whom are living, their sons Thomas G., Donnie A., Joseph L. and Morgan R.
      Pg.622-3: JOHN H. DUNCAN was born in this county on Jan. 13, 1858, and is a son of Thomas Garland and Mildred (Gooch) Duncan, the former a native of KY and the latter of this state. The father was brought to Boone Co. MO by his parents in 1837 when he was but 4 years old. His parents cleared and improved a farm from the wilderness in Boone Co. and died on it well advanced in years. On Nov. 9, 1879, Mr. Duncan married Miss Mary Howell, a daughter of Lilburn L. Howell, one of the pioneers of Linn Co. Mr. and Mrs. Duncan have one child, their daughter, Ethel, who is now the wife of Brainard Howery and resides on the home farm ....
      Pg.736-7: J.W. DUNCAN of Bucklin Township ... native of this State, born in Franklin Co. on February 16, 1844. .... His parents, Thomas J. and Margaret (Nelson) Duncan were also natives of that county and the mother died there in 1849 when her son J.W. was but 5 years old. .... In 1859 the father moved to MO and located in Jackson Co. There he died in 1903. (LB: dates are wrong) His father Elijah Duncan came to MO from TN and after a residence of some years in this state died in Holt Co. .... Mr. Duncan was first married in 1869 and by that union became the father of 10 children, all of whom are living. Their mother died in 1893, and in 1894 the father married a second wife, joining himself with Mrs. Crippen, a widow of this county. Have three children of whom two are living.
