In the name of God Amen:
I Henry Harper of the County of Dade in the state of Missouri, being of sound disposing mind and memory but weak in body and knowing that it ---- ---- for all men to die, do make ordain publish and declare this my last will and testament. First, I give and bequeath my soul to God who gave it, my body to resign to the dust from whence it came to be buried in a decent Christian like manner, and 2nd I will that my just debts be punctually paid. Thirdly, I give and bequeath to my well beloved wife Margaret Harper the farm on which I now live being the south west quarter of section nine (9) Township twenty eight (28) of Range twenty eight (28) containing 160 acres to have and to hold the same for and during her natural life together with all my stocks of horses, cattle, sheep and hogs my farming tools household and kitchen furniture & an old wagon together with all debts due owing to me or to become due to be truly enjoyed and possessed by her for and during her natural life or widowhood and at her death my will and design is that the above described land and whatever personal property may be remaining at her death or marriage to be equally divided between my three sons Andrew Jackson Harper, William Carroll Harper and Moses Hiram Harper all residing at home and my other four children (viz) John W Harper, Wiley A Harper, Sarah S Gillock and Elizabeth Jane Smith who are now married and doing for themselves I have all ready given to each of them the sum of fifty dollars in cash and other property which I consider makes them equal to what I have given to my wife and my three sons just named. It is my further will and design that each of the last four married children (viz) John, Wiley, Sary and Elizabeth have the sum of twenty five dollars each to be paid them by my executor whenever he may collect a note for 135 dollars on William Durham of the state of Tennessee and lastly I hereby constitute and appoint William Duncan, Sr.[?] of Jasper and State aforesaid to be the Executor of this my last will and testament revoking and annulling all former wills by me made and hereby certifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament.

Cataloged under Civil War, 1861-1865, pensions, indexes; does not say if Confederate or Federal, but probably Federal. Negative film, some cards much too faint or dark to read, some cards blurred or faded, particularly the service unit and the dates of application. Most of the very faint or dark cards were in a slightly different format, with space for years enlisted and discharged which were sometimes filled in. Many of these were for service in later years, although one or two were for service ca 1866.
Name of soldier, alias, name of dependent widow or minor, service (military unit or units), date of filing, class (invalid or widow or minor or other), Application #, Certificate #, state from which filed (sometimes blank), attorney (sometimes blank, MAD: did not usually copy), remarks. Sometimes the "Invalid" or "Widow" class had an "s" added to it before the application #; occasionally the area for the service information included a circled "S". The minor's name was frequently that of the guardian rather than the minor.
The military unit was frequently the Company Letter, the Regiment Number, sometimes US Vet Vol Inf. (US Veteran Volunteer Infantry), L.A. (Light Artillery), H.A. (Heavy Artillery), US C Inf (US Colored? Infantry), Cav. (Cavalry), Mil. Guards, V.R.C. (?Volunteer Reserve Corps?), etc. Sometimes there were several service units given.
Cards appear to be arranged by the last name, first name, middle initial if any, and state (including "US") of service.

William Gorsuch about Sept. 1841 near Madisonville in Monroe Co. TN by Strict Lane Esq., no record evidence of marriage except as the records of Monroe Co. TN show. Smith and Hiram Duncan ?? debt, said execution being issued on a transcript of a judgment filed in the office of the Clerk of the Dade Circuit Court, which judgment being recovered by said Pltf. vs. sd defts. before Basil? Luido?? a Justice of the Peace in Green Twp, Dade Co. MO, said execution dated 16 Sept. 1843, which execution came to my hands on 2 Oct. 1843, and on same day I proceeded to levy said execution on tract of land, the E 1/2 of NE 1/4 Sec.14 Twp.28 Range 29 in Jasper Co. MO containing 80 acres more or less, the property of said Hiram Duncan one of the defendants in said execution, ... advertised for public sale, sold on 23 Oct. 1843, to Jesse B. Hopkins, the highest and best bidder, $102. Wherefore, I the said John P. Osborn for $102 in cash paid by Jesse B. Hopkins, sell to said Jesse B. Hopkins the interest which Hiram Duncan had to the E 1/2 of NE 1/4 Sec.14 Twp.28 Range 29 at the time of the execution afsd. /s/ Jno. P. Osborn, Shff.
