      John Duncan, of Blount Co. TN (East TN), who was a Private in the Compy. commanded by Captain Crocket of the Regt. commanded by Col. Morgan in the VA line for 2 years from 1776; on VA Continental, cert. to Genl. Morgan L99; Inscribed on Roll of E. TN at rate of $80 per annum to commence 4 March 1831; Certificate of Pension issued 19 Dec. 3(torn) and sent to James Hair, Knoxville, TN; Rev. Claim Act 7 June 1832.
      Margaret Duncan, TN, widow of John Duncan who was a pensioner under Act of 1832 and who died on 29 April 1836 of Blount Co. TN, who was a private in Compy. commanded by Capt. Crockett of Regt. commanded by Col. Morgan in VA line for 2 years; Inscribed on Roll of Knoxville at rate of $80 per annum to commence 29 April 1836; Certificate of Pension issued 1 Oct. 1844 and sent to Jno. E. Toole, Maryville, TN; Act 7 July 1838.
      Margaret Duncan, TN, widow of John Duncan who was a private in VA line; Inscribed on Roll at rate of $80 per annum to commence 4 March 1843; Certificate of Pension issued 3 Dec. 1844 and sent to John E. Toole, Maryville, TN; Act 3 March 1843.
      Declaration of John Duncan (signed), 9 Aug. 1832, before David McKamy, justice of Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions of Blount Co. TN; resident of said county & state at his own house in said county, aged 82 years who is entirely unable by reason? of bodily infirmaty to go to Court; in order to obtain benefit of provision under Act 7 June 1832; that he entered service of US under following named officers and served as herein stated; he lived in Rockbridge Co. VA; he enlisted in said Rockbridge under Capt. Crockett; he was transferred from Capt. Crockett into Col. Morgans Regiment of Riflemen, he thinks it was in 7th Regiment of VA line for 2 years; he thinks he enlisted in year 1775 but is not certain as to the time; he served out his full term under Col. Morgan and was honourably discharged but can not recollect what officer signed it; he has however? lost it; he thinks he may be mistaken as to the date but feels certain that he served the time above stated, towit, two years; he has no documentary evidence and he knows of person whose testimony he can procure who can testify to his service; he hereby relinquishes any claim whatever to a pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state.
         Statement by Isaac Anderson (did not sign), clergyman residing in Blount Co. TN, and Robert Hooke and Col. James McGinley (/s/ Meginley), residing in same place, hereby certify that we are well acquainted with John Duncan who has subscribed and sworn to the above declaration; that we believe him to be 82 years of age; that he is reputed and believed in the neighbourhood where he now resides to have been a soldier of the rev. and that we concur in that opinion.
         Statement by David McKamy, after the investigation of the matter and putting the interragatories prescribed by the War Department (MAD: not among papers I copied but should have been if they were in file) that the above named applicant was a rev. soldier and served as he states; and it appears to him that Robert Hooke and Col. James Meginley who signed the foregoing certificates are residents in Blount Co. TN and are credible persons and that their statement is entitled to credit; and that the applicants memory has declined with his infirmity and loss of bodily strength so that he was not able to detail the particulars of his campain more fully than they are; and that Isaac Anderson a clergyment whose name is in the above certificate has left this county on business and his certificate cannot be procured at this time.
      Declaration of Margaret (X) Duncan, 6 Feb. 1844, before JP of Blount Co. TN; a resident in county & state aforesaid, aged about 73 years; in order to obtain benefit of provision of Act 7 July 1832 and 3 March 1843; she is the widow of John Duncan who was a soldier of the revolution; that John Duncan drew a pension under Act 7 June 1832 of $80 for his said services, ... which Certificate of Pension is hereto annexed marked (A) and asked to be taken as part of this Declaration; that she was married to John Duncan on 17 July 1788 in Craigs Fort at the time the Indian hostilities were rageing in this county, in what is now called Blount Co. near Maryville; that she has no record evidence of her marriage except the Family record kept by herself & husband containing the date of their marriage and of the births & deaths of their children, which is hereto annexed marked (B) & asked to be taken as part of this Declaration; that her husband John Duncan died on 29 April 1836; that the marriage took place previous to 1 Jan. 1794, viz, at the time above stated; and that she is a widow at this time and has remained a widow ever since the death of her husband John Duncan as will more fully appear by reference to the proof thereto annexed; that by reason of bodily infirmity she is prevented from appearing before a court of record for the purpose of making her declaration.
         Certification by JP; that I believe the family record named in said declaration to be a true record as kept by herself and husband; that Margaret Duncan is unable in consequence of bodily infirmity to appear before any court of record for the purpose of making her declaration.
         Statement by Margaret Wear, aged about 81 years, of Blount Co. TN; I am well acquainted with Margaret Duncan; that I know her to be the widow of John Duncan; that I was present and saw her married to & with John Duncan; that it took place as I believe in Craigs Fort, in what is now called Blount Co., near Maryville, in the year 1788, on 17 July; that I believe her to be the widow of John Duncan, having been acquainted with her from the time she was married to John Duncan up to the time of his death; that she is a widow at this time and remained a widow ever since the death of her husband John Duncan.
         Statement by JP that affiant is a woman of intelligence and veracity.
      (A) War Department, Rev. Claim, 19 Dec. 1832; In conformity with law ... 7 June 1832, John Duncan of State of TN, East TN Agency, who was a private in the Army of the Rev., is entitled to receive $80 per annum during his natural life, commencing on 4 March 1831 ...

      Declaration by James Wear, 6 Feb. 1844; aged about 71 years, residing in Blount Co. TN; that I am well acquainted with Margaret Duncan who has subscribed & sworn to the annexed declaration; that I know her to be the widow of John Duncan; that I was in the house at the time she was said to have been married to & with John Duncan; that I was told on the next day that they were married though I did not see it having been asleep at that time; that she is reputed & believed in the neighbourhood where she lives to be the widow of John Duncan; and that I concur in that opinion having been acquainted with her from the time she was married to John Duncan up to the time of his death; that she is a widow at this time, and has remained a widow ever since the death of her husband John Duncan.
         Certification by court that after investigation, Margaret Duncan is entitled to the benefit of Acts of Congress; that the above affiant is a man of intelligence & veracity.
      Transmittal letter 10 Feb. 1844 from John E. Toole?. Inclosed you have the original proceedings in the matter of application of Margaret Duncan for a pension ....
      Affidavit of Samuel Boyle (Bogle?), 8 June 1844, before Blount Co. TN JP; aged about 80 years, residing in county & state aforesaid; that he is personally acquainted with Margaret Duncan, widow of John Duncan decd. who was a Rev. Pensioner; that he knows her to be the widow of John Duncan; that he believes Margaret Duncan was married to John Duncan some time in the year 1788; that he was personally acquainted with them & knew them to live together as husband and wife for several years previous to the year 1794; that they continued to live together as husband & wife up to the death of John Duncan; that she is a widow at this time & has remained a widow ever since the death of John Duncan.
         Certification of JP that Samuel Boyle? is a man of intelligence & veracity.
         Statement by Robert Hooke, 12 June 1844; aged about 71 years, residing in Blount Co. TN; he is well acquainted with Margaret Duncan, widow of John Duncan decd, who was a rev. pensioner; that he knows her to be the widow of John Duncan; that he believes the marriage took place in the year 1788 but knows that John Duncan & Margaret Duncan resided together as husband & wife prior to 1 Jan. 1794 and continued to live together as such up to the death of John Duncan; that Margaret Duncan is a widow at this time & has remained a widow ever since the death of John Duncan.
         Certification of JP that Robert Hooke is a man of intelligence & veracity.
         Statement by William Loury, Clerk of County Court of Blount Co., 12 June 1844, that I have carefully examined my office and can find no marriage license or bond or other record evidence of the marriage of John Duncan and Margaret Alexander (now the widow of John Duncan decd) and that said records have either not been preserved, or have been lost or so mislaid that they cannot be found.

      Declaration of Margaret (+) Duncan, 31 Oct. 1844, before Blount Co. TN JP; resident of Blount Co. TN, aged about 73 years; in order to obtain benefits of Act 3 March 1843; that she is widow of John Duncan who was a private in Army of Rev. and she believes served in Captain Crockets Company in Regiment commanded by Col. Morgan; that under Act of 7 July 1838, a certificate was granted to her bearing date 1 Oct. 1844 for an annual pension of $80 which pension terminated 4 March 1841; she is still a widow; by reason of bodily infirmity she is prevented from appearing before any Court of record for the purpose of making her declaration.
         Certification by JP; that I know her to be the identical person who swore to and signed a declaration before me in order to obtain benefit of Act 7 July 1838; that Margaret Duncan is unable in consequence of bodily infirmity to appear before any Court of record for the purpose of making her declaration.
         Statement by County Court, 4 Nov. 1844; appeared William Toole aged about 52 years and Robert H. Hodsden aged about 37 years; they are personally acquainted with Margaret Duncan widow of John Duncan decsd., who has sworn to and subscribed the within declaration; that they know her to be the identical Margaret Duncan who drew a pension upon a certificate of pension granted to her bearing date 1 Oct. 1844 under Act 7 July 1838 at rate of $80 per annum; and that she is still a widow.
      Transmittal letter from John E. Toole, 9 Nov. 1844, from Maryville, TN. You have enclosed the Declaration & proof in the case of Mrs. Margaret Duncan, applicant for the benefit of the Act of Congress of March 1843.
