3-190/191: 20 June 1829. The Commissioners appointed by the Casey County Court at April term 1829 to divide the real estate of Jacob Carpenter decd. divided the part of the land belonging to the estate of Jacob Carpenter that is known as the Lear Frye land betwixt the 8 children he had by his first wife formerly Lear Frye, the land lies in two tracts and is divided and numbered in the following way: First to Fry Carpenter by allotment and is part of a tract adj. widow Tates farm, called Lear Frye 200 acre tract, ... containing 33 acres and 115 poles; Second to Jacob Carpenter by allotment, part of same tract, line towards the mansion house, ... containing 33 acres and 115 poles; Third to John Carpenter by allotment, part of same tract, ... old line, containing 33 acres and 115 poles; Fourth to Elizabeth Powell by allotment and is part of same tract, ... containing 33 acres and 115 poles; Fifth to David Carpenter by allotment ... containing 33 acres and 115 poles; Sixth to Christopher Carpenter, part of same survey, ... containing 33 acres and 115 poles; Seventh to George Carpenter by allotment, part of same tract, corner of the old survey, containing 33 acres and 115 poles; Eighth to Margaret Carpenter by allotment, called the Lear Frye II" (MAD: II" as written) acres tract, begins at John Frys S.W. corner, then ... 3-270/271: 21 June 1829. According to order of Casey County Court at April term 1829, we have proceeded to divide the lands of Jacob Carpenter decd between the heirs of said Jacob decd in the way as follows, First, we have divided 7 tracts of land between seven of the children, leaving out George, John and David because their father has given them their legacy in the land in his lifetime, these lands are called the mill tract, the Dinwiddie tract, the mansion house tract, the brush creek tract, the nightingale tract, the Edwards tract, and the Cundiff tract, these allotments are all numbers, First to Christina Carpenter by allotment and is part of the mansion house tract, ... near Powells mill, then to the beginning. (pg.271) containing 18 acres and 144 poles; the Sixth to Margaret Carpenter by allotment and lies in the forks of the creek above Gays mill, beg. at Barnet's corner on the E. side of Carpenter's Creek, containing 69 acres. The Seventh number falls to Nancy Carpenter by allotment and lies adj. Wm. Dinwiddies tract, ... containing 61 acres. Be it further known that in order to make their shares equal, we say that Jacob and Margaret are to pay Nancy Carpenter $39 each, be it further understood that Christina Carpenter's allotment is to include the tract of land called the Cundiff tract of 153 acres which we here lay down the plat of on another piece of paper, also Fry Carpenter's allotment is to include the tract of land called the Edwards tract of 143 acres which we lay down the plat on another piece of paper, also Elizabeth Powell's allotment is to include the tract called the Brush Creek tract of 247 acres which we here lay down the plat on another paper, and if there is more of the afsd estate that we are authorized to divide, we do not know it. 21 June 1829. /s/ Buford Peyton, Thomas Ferrell, Willis Duncan. 3-271/272: Per order of Casey County Court at Dec. term 1828, we allot and assign to Celia Carpenter widow of Jacob Carpenter decd. 3 tracts of land as a full equal third part of the land belonging to the estate of Jacob Carpenter decd as her dower, the first tract in Casey Co. on waters of Carpenters Creek and is called the Smith tract, near Thos. Williams fence, containing 228 acres by survey more or less; the second tract in Casey Co. on the waters of Scotts Creek, containing 21 acres by survey; the third tract in Casey Co. on the waters of Scotts creek, containing 210 acres by survey. We also allot and assign to said Celia Carpenter a full equal third part of all the money which the slaves of the estate of Jacob Carpenter decd sold for which is in the hands of William Roy, the Commissioner appointed to sell those slaves; we also allot and assign to Celia Carpenter one equal full third part of all the money in the hands of the administrators of the estate of Jacob Carpenter decd. which property belongs to the estate after all debts and expenses are paid. /s/ Buford Peyton, Willis Duncan, Thomas Ferrell. River adj. land once owned by William Farrel and Sterling Coulter, the first tract being the land conveyed to said Willis Duncan by George Carpenter and wife; the second or other tract adj. the first, corner to Dunwodie's 100 acres survey, George F. Cataloged under Civil War, 1861-1865, pensions, indexes; does not say if Confederate or Federal, but probably Federal. Negative film, some cards much too faint or dark to read, some cards blurred or faded, particularly the service unit and the dates of application. Most of the very faint or dark cards were in a slightly different format, with space for years enlisted and discharged which were sometimes filled in. Many of these were for service in later years, although one or two were for service ca 1866.
Name of soldier, alias, name of dependent widow or minor, service (military unit or units), date of filing, class (invalid or widow or minor or other), Application #, Certificate #, state from which filed (sometimes blank), attorney (sometimes blank, MAD: did not usually copy), remarks. Sometimes the "Invalid" or "Widow" class had an "s" added to it before the application #; occasionally the area for the service information included a circled "S". The minor's name was frequently that of the guardian rather than the minor.
The military unit was frequently the Company Letter, the Regiment Number, sometimes US Vet Vol Inf. (US Veteran Volunteer Infantry), L.A. (Light Artillery), H.A. (Heavy Artillery), US C Inf (US Colored? Infantry), Cav. (Cavalry), Mil. Guards, V.R.C. (?Volunteer Reserve Corps?), etc. Sometimes there were several service units given.
Cards appear to be arranged by the last name, first name, middle initial if any, and state (including "US") of service.
